Good thing he didn't suggest one then isn't it.
How heavy is the metal you're playing?

Maybe a used Orange AD30 head. If you need it really heavy for metal, maybe an EQ or OD will do as a gain boost.

the only new addition ive got (mark IV is a great idea from what i understand) is maybe an ENGL. theyve got a couple heads here that you could afford. well, basicly just the screamer and thunder reverb if you wanna get a cab. then a 2x12" from avatar if you get the screamer (may have to push an extra $100) or something a bit nicer if you get the thunder. now i havent played either of them (or any engl) but i understand that engls are nice amps so they should at least sound really good.

Man that's a deal. The heads alone usually go for like 1700.

You may want to look into Randall stuff. Especially if your a Pantera fan. The Krankenstein does an awesome clean, because of all the country stuff he was doing right before. Though it is out of your range. I've had some great experiences with the Evolution. I think the ENGL stuff will be a bit too gain for your range of tastes.

BTW...Mark IV is an amazing amp.

Krankensteins sell CHEAP used though. I've seen a few go in the ~$500 range.
