what kind of music do you play? Is this for gigging or just fooling around at home?

What do you play?
Will you need it for gigs or just home use?

Whatever you do, DO NOT get a Marshall MG or Line 6 Spider you WILL regret it later.

try line 6, the spider 3 is awesome

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

What size?
If bedroom practice, get a 5watt tube amp, if bigger, I have no idea.

hmmm...hmmm...absolutely not the MG.
Idk for how much you get amps in UK...but for 400$ you could get a Peavey VK 112...I see your link 182 avatar...I like the way my VK sounds when playing punk rock
1. You're surfing the internet.
2. You're browsing through the UG forums.
3. You're reading now.
5. You didn't notice that there was no #4.
6. You just checked it.

Could do with telling us your playing preferences

As far as metal / heavy rock goes, i'd advise saving up for the peavey valveking 112 (£279)

If not, try out the Vox AD50VT (£189). Its got 11 diff amps and 11 diff effects on it. Very flexible.

For blues, try a Laney 15w valve... cant remember the product name.

i just will be using it at home, just wanting to progress with my skill and technique

id like an amp with delay on, also if at all possible

its ranged, from punk rock to progressive rock. So bands like nofx to u2.

TBH, the line 6 amps arn't super bad if they arn't being used for gigs. they're just overpriced. If you could save up a little more i'd look at a flextone

I'd just go for a Vox Valvetronix then, it'll have all the effects you need and is ideal for lower gain applications as you want.
