So I'm about to start college in the summer and I recently just went to orientation.

We got to speak to advisers about our majors, part time jobs, intentional study, and future careers.

Since I'm deciding to do Sound Engineering / Commercial Music for my major they talked to me about working part time in the college's Club / Concert place where they hire some popular bands and stuff to come and perform. Obviously the work will start off smaller and then work my way up to doing more important things, but I'll learn how to set up all the equipment and actually meet the bands and stuff.

The first gig will be Jimmy Eat World, so I'm pretty excited to see them since I listened to them a lot when I was younger.

Anyone have any cool experiences with bands or have similar jobs?

I've heard that some bands can be dicks and ask for ridiculous things or they won't perform.

Before John Mayer got big he had a more hidden myspace his friends could talk to him on

I was one of them, we talked back and forth, I'm still a huge fan of his music
does that count?

That's fairly cool.

He seems like he's got a fair bit of attitude these days, though?

I've met a fair few bands over the years, not really hung out with any except Wheatus though.

Highlights inlude sitting on the tour bus, and also giving one of the backing vocalists 20p so she could buy a kebab. Good times.

I've never met anybody. But one of my college buddies met zakk wylde in the holiday inn weight room. If only i wasnt working i could have met him too. Alot of people say he's a prick, but my friend said he was down to earth and real nice.

actually not really, he posts blogs frequently on his new personal myspace, I read them all, he's still the same guy, just with alot of money. He tries to keep away from the paparazzi as far as I see it, and if they do hound him, he just laughs and leads 'em along, he's a pretty funny/smart guy.

he posts vids of him playing on youtube here and there, well he has like three, and he posts other vids, do you want a link to his youtube?

Hung out with Arch Enemy for a little while.

Talked with Otep's band for a bit.

Spent the night drinking with Haloscript

My buddy went to warped tour or whatever and had a press pass from his female friend, they got to hang with Killswitch Engage, and oddly enough the 3 guys from Superbad were there. (This was around release time too I think)

Chatted with Marc Rizzo and told him to watch out for the local slut that was hangin' all over him cuz he'd probably need a dr. to give him a shot afterwards.

Local bands all the time since we're in one obviously.

Bass player from Less Than Jake chatted a bit and he bought my old Marshall 1936 2x12 (apparently he plays guitar in his other side-band)
