but there are loads and i am not sure which is best
im kind of a fan of big epic, almost free-roaming battles, rather than "pathy", restricted, one-way only missions.
any ideas guys?
thanks in advance.
*edit* ive never played any on PC before.

Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is a great RPG.
Jedi Knight: Academy is an amazing 3rd person action one.

Knights of the Old Republic I and II are great games.

Also, look up Starwars Battlefront one and two, they're battles, and the second one has space battles. it sounds like exactly what you're looking for. if you can only buy one, just go for the second one though

There were good times to be had back in the day, that game had a fantastic community.

Empire at War is pretty rad.

The KOTOR games are probably some of the best SW games out there, as most of the others are quite restricted.

Whatever you do, do not get Republic Commando, as it fits the exact description of things you hate.

This new one - the Force Unleashed has the potential to kick ass. It looks like a playground where you throw **** around to hurt stormtroopers, which could be brilliant or fun for ten minutes then really empty.

I would like to confirm that Jedi Academy is ****ing brilliant.

Good storyline, great gameplay, an element of free-roaming (to som extent) about it. I have not yet tired of this game.

The online play's pretty good aswell.

WHAT THE HECK!!

you forgot lego star wars! im not even being sarcastic!

its not quite free roaming but has replay value, is SOOOOOO funny, pretty cheap and actually a decent game!! atleast give it a look!

EDIT: also knights of the old rupublic is a very good game too!!

knights of the old republic FTW. 2 is eh, but still ok.

battlefront 2 is good cheap fun, but gets boring.

empire at war is GREAT...for 10 minutes.

It sounds more like you want a strategy game, going off the "epic battles" bit, Galactic Battlegrounds is alright, it's Age Of Empires 2, but Star Wars, or Empires at War allows for some pretty epic space battles.
