i know this is probably the million thread of this but i cant seem to find anything with the searchbar

i was learning the song jester dance by in flames which is in drop c

when i try to do the chords they sound like crap i dont know if this is because
1.chords in drop c sound like crap in acoustic?
2.i need distortion for it to sound good?
3.maybe my strings need to be bigger so i dont get buzz?

the strings im using right now are daddario medium

what can i do so the chords sound good on acoustic?

any help is appreciated

on my epiphone les paul, i replaced my ernie ball standard strings that came with the guitar with 'skinny top, heavy bottom' ones. it sounds better in drop c and tune down 1 step. hope this helps

^Ya, I thought that might be the case. Make sure you tune all of the other strings to match the C in standard, because those power chords won't work in drop C.

Mostly because that song's in C standard and not drop C, perchance?

i got guitarpro i tuned it exactly how it is on the thing and the chords sound straight up crap is not a problem with technique since i can do powerchords and other chords perfectly fine i checked even with tuner for exactitude

this is the tab if you guys got guitar pro
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/i/in_flames/jesters_dance_ver3_guitar_pro.htm

i got guitar tuned exactly same way. i think is not drop c it says is tuned 2 steps down but is tuned exactly as in guitar pro i check by ear and with tuner to see if they were exact notes. i know is tune the right way since i can do the lil intro acoustic thing but the chords sound crap

^^Ok, the reason why the acoustic parts sound the same is because you don't have to use the sixth string, in your case, the only stringed tuned differently than standard, so you wouldn't hear a difference. The first time the 6th string is introduced is in the powerchord part you tabbed, try tuning everything down 2 steps instead of just the 6th string and i guaruntee you won't have a problem.

yeah i tuned down to 2 steps just as in the file but i think my problem is the string size im noticing alot of buzzing when i go that low and do the chords

Get yourself another set of string, Ernie Ball's Not Even Slinky's work nice for droptunings like these.
After that, calibrate your neck to compensate for the increased tension and intonate your guitar.

Then: retry.

increased tension? i thought theres less tension when you tune 2 steps down

True, but the thicker strings will increase it again.

Well, in all honesty it's a good idea to check your neck after droptuning that far anyway.

I had to readjust my neck for increased tension when I got the Ernie Ball's but I guess that's cause I had set the neck up using a set of .09's
