I have a Kustom SS amp. It's 30 watts. I can get kind of a scooped mids metal tone out of it but not a very good one.I also have a Vintage Rat pedal(ProCo). I know many guitarists place a tubescreamer in front of there amp and it boosts the gain or something. Is there any way I could do this.

Do I turn down the tone and turn up the pedals gain.
Do I turn down the gain on the pedal.

You can't do that tubescreamers only boost the gain on tube amps if you do it on a SS amp it will sound like ****.

So bassically I'm stuck using crappy gain.

You could buy a good distortion pedal and I have no expierence with them so can't really suggest any.

I think your amp is holding you back, looking at your gear. Consider an upgrade? Otherwise, go to GC and play every metal pedal they have over a clean amp, and see what suits you.
