i need a well rounded Multi-effects processor. i play heavy music. i.e. death metal, black metal, djent, melodic stuff, etc. and i absolutely need something that can carry a tone like In Flames, Meshuggah, Behemoth, Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth, Mnemic, and other stuff. i know every MFX has great cleans and stuff but i have no idea which amp models and stuff can push that kind of sound on a MFX pedal. i would like to stay under $250ish, $300 would be pushing it. i'm using this to record, i dont play with a band or anything.

Too digital sounding to my ear...go for a used Line 6 POD XT Live.

The XTL has a USB out, and you can use it with Gearbox to broaden your possbilities, it's a great recording tool. Even so, they make just an XT that has all the features minus the footpedals, making it a good desktop recording processor.

well the xt also offers a lot more...

Well, the Toneport models are XT-based, so if you don't like Gearbox, chances are you might not like the XT either.

what about the Metal Shop Model Pack, i could buy that for my TonePort...
i would want the Big Bottom, Uberschall, 5150, and powerball models...
but i have no idea how they sound. does anyone have experience with them?

or should i stick to getting a good MFX to record stuff?
