What an inefficient motel. I do hope that they choose a better place to lay their heads next time. It sounds riddled with inconviences, and for £5/$10 a night I hope they aren't expecting much.

well if the room was actually $25 then thats 25/3=$8.33 each...

but they paid 1.33 extra so 1.33 X 3 = $3

so the 9 x 3 = 27 in that context doesn't have any relevance to anything. what matters is what they paid overall.

25 + 2 = 27 / 3 = $9 each, but the rest of the money is back in their pockets. it doesn't matter if they paid $1000 each.. if they only ACTUALLY had to pay $8.33 each, the remaining 991.67 would just go back to their wallet.

if I rewrite it this way, it'll make more sense I think..

It's a trick of words. It wants you to think the answer is 30 and has you add the number 2 when you should be taking it away as:

3 x $9 = 27 then take away the $2 = $25 which is what they paid. And if you take what they ultimately paid for the room ($25) and add the $3 ($1 each they received), and then add the $2 the guy took, you would reach the $30 that was paid.

NO, there is a flaw. the room is 25 dollars, they paid 30 dollars. the manager gives 5 bucks to the bellboy. the bellboy gives 3 dollars to the men. that is 25+3 = 28. He keeps the 2 bucks for himself. that is 28+2=30... all the dollars are there

They didn't each pay $9 for the room..they were gunna get $5 so it would be $25..but they only got $3 back, so its $28. $28/3 doesn't equal 9! I don't know what it does equal and i'm not working it out
