Hey guys i just scored a 1961 Fender Bandmaster for free from my friend's dad. Does anyone know any famous musicians who have used this amp before. Also what kind of tones are possible with this vintage beast.
#2
i don't know of any famous people who used it. as far as tones thats all up to you. i would suggest just playing around with it for a day or two.

sweet. heres the secret to getting the sweetest tones. plug your guitar into the treble channel, 1st input. and then take a cable and put it in treble channels second input, take the other end of that cable and plug it into the bass channel either input. turn it up as loud as you can handle it. your in for tone heaven.

btw, pics and clips now.
and its probably worth some money

haven't turned it on yet because it needs a little work. I've heard of channel hopping and i plan to do that. I just bolted one of the transformers that was dangling back to the chassis. I need to rewire the fuse back into the circuit also i need to get a new 3 amp fuse and a cap for the fuse holder. Should i use the tubes that came with it the last time it was in use was 17 years ago. I need to get a cab to test the amp with too. also i need to put in a grounded power cable.

haha awesome. and in my post i said "bass and treble channels" because when i saw the thread i thought you got a bassman. i love bandmasters. i think i prefer them to the bassman.

I've seen decent condition early Bandmasters go for as much as 3500 bucks, Restore that bad boy and never sell it.

Hey guys Just informing you all that i am going to take this amp to a repair shop on thursday. All the electronics are going to be restored and a 3 prong power cord with ground will be installed. The amp should be up and running in at least 2 weeks after it is dropped off. What i need now is a cab for the amp. what would be the best cab to get max i'm willing to pay is between 300-400$.
Here are the cabs i'm considering.

I play alternative rock. think White Stripes, Black Keys, Raconteurs, soloing like Frank Zappa, arctic monkeys, and a little harder stuff like smashing pumpkins.

oh, the Bandmaster is a head? i was under the assumption it was one of the tweed combos. my bad, its not worth 3500 bucks, sorry for the confusion.

Mmm, a blackface Bandmaster is my dream head. At 40 watts, it's crankale to a very exciting level of overdrive that's unattainable with some other Fender amps. +1 to whoever suggested jumpering the channels.

Cabs? Avatar 2x12" comes to mind. Mabye upgrade to the traditional cab with something other V30's, they sound a little harsh with american-voiced amps.

its still worth around 1500 but that don't matter to me because its got the vintage fender tone i've been dying for. I just need the right cab to voice my amp to get the right sound for my style.

looking for something with a little more strength in the build quality and some name brand you know

Mesa makes some nice cabs.
#21
mesas aren't in the 300-400$ range. I think the Carvin X100B or the Vox might be good what are your guys opinions o those cabs

the avatar has bad reviews due to weak constructions and i plan to gig with this rig not just record

And the MG100HDFX half stack package has steller reviews. Just a thought.

Carvin has an excellent reputation. so does Vox. i would say to just maybe try them both out with your head and see which one you like better.
