I recently bought a Jackson Rhoads EX from someone on craiglist for a project guitar. One of the problems is the pick-ups.

The bridge is buzzy and noisy. The neck is muddy and kind of lifeless.

I'm looking for something with that will be perfect for 80s metal.

So far from looking around I came to

dimarzio tone zone and air norton
Set of Breeds
JB and something else

I was also looking into swineshead pick-ups(ie warthog, venom, xbucker) but I wasn't sure which was what I'm looking for.

I'm not interested in actives for this guitar.

I really need help finding the pick-ups I want... there are so many options and I get a headache looking at all of them.

Thanks for the help.

I don't know how the Breeds would sound in Alder, but in my Mahogany RG321, the bridge sounds very full and middy, with the neck sounding about even with the treble being quite smooth compared to the stock pups I had.

Cool, breeds definitely get a lot of praise on this site.

Do they give a good chunky megadeth/old metallica sound?
I would like the bridge pick-up to be nice and articulate, with a good amount of treble(with out it being buzzy or shrill)

I was thinking of buying swineshead though because not only do I hear they are great but I really like supporting smaller companies.

I'm up for other suggestion though

Ill check out the super distortion.

Any other companies I should look at? Any duncans I should be considering?

Anyone have experience with swineshead?

Thanks for the advice so far.
