hey everyone, ive got this question on my maths assignment that i need some serious help with.
Here it is.

After picking up a few rather lucrative "mowing" jobs over the summer holidays, you and your best friend decide to start a landscape management business. the table below shows the monthly revenue for the first year of your new "mow more" business.

A) using data in the table below to define a step-function that will model the data

B) discuss two reasonsfor the data acting in the way it does in this situation.

month revenue($)
july 93
august 115
september 144
october 177
november 223
december 274
january 335
february 425
march 531
april 550
may 569
june 590

One reason for more cash would be that you do a good job and recommended to other people = more work = more cash

Plot it, using the numbers i added as as x values and the revenues as y values.

Looks like a parabola joining to a linear bit. Model the first bit with a quadratic function and the last bit with a linear function. Doing it quickly on a calculator:

y (with the hat on top, i don't know how do do it on the computer) =
4.893x^2 + 1.916x + 89.857 (for 1 <or= x <or= 9)
19.6x+354.2 (for x > 9)

Reasons.. err, you reached max capacity in terms of numbers of customers after 9 months, but your steadily increasing reputation allows you to charge them more?

Urrg, statistics. Do some real maths.

Also, do your own homework.

It is real maths.

Easy,

1. People started moving into the neighbourhood.

2. Rich people slowly got lazier.
