I just picked up a guitar for the first time yesterday and was playing though a White Stripes song when I came across this- 5p3, and this- 3b, in the tablature. I have no idea what either means, I really need help.
5p3 means pull-off: pluck only the 5 and then ''pull-off'' your finger to let the 3*ring...
3b means Bend : push the string towards you while holding the 3rd fret .
hope its clear enough...

A guitar made of wood?
That's such a ****ing brilliant idea!
P= Pull-Off: Hit The big note then pull of to the second.
B=Bend: There are many ways to do this depending on the guitarist style but the most commen ways you do it is hit the first not the bend to the pitch of the second note.
