as some of you know I'm making guitar pedals and selling them.

well I"m going to be building an overdrive VERY soon.

what would YOU like it based off of?

I won't do an OCD (can't find a schem)
and I won't do a tubescreamer clone (There are WAYYY tomany if them)

those are the rules.

what do you guys want?

Ohhhh....kinky.

How about a boost? I can't think of any ODs right now that won't get me flamed (Zakk Wylde). But make sure you give me a gigantic discount.

Hmmm how about a higher quality Bad Monkey? Put a bit more gain and make it clean up better if that's possible?

thats basically a TS clone though. with some gain.

and yes its very possible I might do a clone like that later but for now I'll leave the TS clones to The.Spine.surfs. If you want one of those go talk to him he does a great Clone

See if you can do better than the tone pump. I have searched for an overdrive for a long time and that one was well suited for my needs. But supposedly anything can be improved on. Let me know if you can I would buy one in a heartbeat.

The best idea would be to clone an expensive, high-end OD in order to save much money. My vote now goes for one of the MI Audio ODs.

Hm... sticking with MI Audio here, take a look at the Tube Zone. Might be a challenge though.

Edit: Though I guess if you're looking at high-end tube ODs, you can't really go wrong any which way.

Now that I consider it, most of these high end ODs will be pretty obscure, so you'll be lucky if you find a schematic. The MI Audio site does list the specs they use so maybe you could take a leap of faith.

Well I must be off to bed, but I wish you luck.

Man, don't clone the MI audio stuff. Don't clone anything that the original designer is still making and selling himself to make a living. That's just wrong.
If you have to clone something, find something old and then get some great mods for it. Something like a:
Rat
Electro-harmonix knockout (EQ kind of thing, would be great with an OD section)
EH Linear power booster with a bunch of options
etc etc.
#24
Basically, try to either:

A) Make an affordable version of expensive OD's

B) Perhaps derive some ideas from more than one OD, and combine them together in a sense.

I would love you if you could somehow make a good butler tube driver clone at a good price.
Like, have it run high voltage and everything.
But, i'm not sure if you could do that.

Well, since the.spine.surfs covers tubescreamers, maybe make some higher gain overdrives/distortions? Like, maybe the MI Audio crunch box or something?

By clones, and "make", I mean to kind of derive the idea from one of those, and just modify and tweak from there. Not necessarily copy it.

How about something without a mid hump, with a presence peak, and more gain.

OR something fairly transparent, that still tightens, with a good dolop of usable gain.
