I think my guitar would look a whole lot better with chrome pups. How do the covers fasten on and where can i get them?

Unless you want to get into wax potting and a ****load of soldering and stuff...i would not recommend the idea....worth spending the money on new pups if you want the look that bad.
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

Wait, just what the hell is the point of the covering? Is there a certain sound achieved by it?

I don't think the sound will change in any way. It might... I have no idea really...

Humbuckers were originally designed that way because the metal helped shield the coils a bit - before they knew about wax potting. It also cuts a little treble off the high end. Open coils sound more "open" than covered pickups.

from what i've read and seen that depending on what kind of wax or mixtures you use, may change the sound a little bit.

And there isnt a "**** ton of soldering" you just need to solder the cover to the base plate of the pickup to ground it

but a lot of it is just for aesthetics
