..buy a cheaper guitar $150-250, and use it for drop tunings?
I have an RG, but it has an Edge III, which makes it hard to go to even drop D.
So would it just be a waste of money or what?

Go with something used if your only using it for drop-tuning. I'd look for Ibanez and Schecter, maybe even Dean.

Do not get a 200 dollar guitar with a trem. Especially if you want to down-tune. You might want to look into a used Schecter Omen 6. I personally don't like the feel of them though, so you'll have to try it out.
