ok im playing the jimmi hendrix version. In the bit with the wah, effects and slide. I usually improvise in the C sharp minor scale. Is this correct (i dont know much about usical theory).

Secondly i only know positon 9 on the E string for this scale can anyone telll me any others (tabs preferably). This assuming i was correct about improvising in this scale originally.

I'm fairly sure it's in C actually, which would be the 8th fret on your E string...

...keep in mind that the Hendrix version is played in E flat, so if you've seen someone playing off of their 9th fret, that was still a C.

I'm sure there are tabs for the song on here actually, just dig 'em up =)

Dude, chill out. Way back when he played with the Turners and Little Richard he used two m's in his name himself.

What do you mean by you only know position 9 on the E string? I mean, i know half a step down, the 9th fret on the E string is a C, but i dont get how that tells me the scale positions? I'm guessing youre assuming we know the notes of the C#minor scale and that we would be able to work it out from there, or that you're starting the scale on that note?

BTW, Way to shut him up Prophet of Page (Y) hehe

im starting on the ninth fret on the e string for the scale which is a C sharp. My band plays the song in standard tuning half a step up.

Just to clear up any misunderstandings.

ahh thanks prophet of page. I'm guessing i can also use the harmonic minor to impro over the chords aswell?

Not really, the seventh clashes with the B chord, but maybe pass through it on the C#min chord.

If you're comfortable with string skipping, I'll give you some shapes that give a much more open sound to the key.

Ok, these are some Carl Verheyen patterns, they give a nice open sound to the scales.
