Yes, yet another weird game.

There are less rules to this than the pop vote, and thus it is less interesting, but it's still another nice game, one which will surely enrage the uber-kvlts and underground hulks among us.

We start out with some topic, for example, best metal guitarist.
From past experiences of this game, it's better to have the contestants (you lot) to pick the nominees, so everybody gives up to 10 guitarists that they think are the best. You picked more than 10? I'll just pick the first ten and ignore the rest.
The 10 guitarists who got the most votes will be nominees.
Each round you vote once (more than once will be ignored, lol) for the guitarist you favor THE LEAST. Post your vote either here or PM, doesn't matter. The guitarist that got most votes will be pummeled with a war hammer.
This goes on until the last guitarist stays.

So first, pick a topic. It's best to pick something relatively focused, like 'most influential <genre> album' or something like that.

Don't know how much people will go for that, but if we have a general agreement, then it's fine with me.

how about guitarists with the most style?

it can be style of guitar(frankenstrat), style of clothing (angus young), or playing style (michael angelo batio).

agree?

A. None of those are metal.
B. That's way too vague and subjective.

My favorite doom album is Swallow the Sun's "Morning Never Came", as far as influential, I wouldn't really know, not a huge Sabbath fan. =X

Edit: Best concept album?
"Some of these lyrics are pure black metal nonsense."

there usually isn't a lot of different styles when it comes to metal guitarists. at least not in the broad ranges that you're using as examples. besides that takes more knowledge of a guitarists' techniques and such rather than just his sound.

Oh and for doom/sludge metal...

Cathedral-The Carnival Bizarre

for best concept album... probably Queensryche "Operation:Mindcrime" if that counts here or one of the Ayreon albums.

depends on your point of view as to what are actually metal...i think batio is hard rock/metal but its not the same metal as metallica or megadeth, and those arnt the same metal as slayer or slipknot, so its an interesting subject deciding what is metal. In Zepplin's time they were considered metal, but now they are just rock or classic rock...

use the standard rules on the metal forum. its not debating over a genre, you can open this up in other forums to and discuss it their, but think about which subforum the artists you said would probably belong under. Batio=Shred/80s, Angus=Classic Rock, etc.

if nothing else, look at the stickies above and see what bands are usually considered "metal" and what aren't.

We can do several topics at a time, if you people want... No more than 5 though.

i think this is called elemination, but anyway, sounds decent. as for the Doom one: most influential, Black Sabbath S/T. current favorite: That or Call of the Wretched Sea (Ahab)

1. How many bands can I post?

2. Just bands, or albums too?

1. Read the rules.

2. You can, but I'll just accept the bands and ignore the albums.

This thread is getting revived. I don't know if they would be pure "doom metal", but Agalloch rapes every band on that list. (Black Sabbath is arguable. Personally I can't stand them, but I can't argue their influence)

To be honest, I'm not sure how good a choice of topic 'most influential doom album/band' is...partly because doom isn't a vastly popular subgenre (I don't think I can name ten doom bands), but mostly because there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that the most influential doom band is Black Sabbath.

Not to shit all over your party or anything - I think the metal forum needs more game threads and this one sounds promising, just not the choice of topic. May I suggest changing it to 'best doom band' rather than 'most influential'?
#36
