I argue with my bass player sometimes about anything to do in music, and compare it to Hendrix. for example, he has a problem with my original songs, because our singer says that the amount of meters in one line don't add up with the amount of meters in the other, which I think is total bull**** just if one line of a song doesn't have the same amount of syllables than the other lines. I'll come back with something like "Do you think Hendrix cared about the amount of syllables in his lyrics?" And their comeback is, "He's a prodigy, he's Hendrix." Is it wrong to compare the amount of syllables to something Hendrix would do? I'm not saying I'm Hendrix, but does it really matter how many syllables are in the lines of your songs instead of just writing your lyrics from the soul? Sorry if that was a bit confusing.

Well if it ruins the flow of the song, then you should care. And what makes you think that Hendrix didn't care about that?

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?

He's saying...

Does it matter if the songs he writes have to be even and follow a guideline, and then he compares his songwriting to Hendrix's because it's not always even but it sounds good.

I think it doesn't matter as long as it sounds good, but you shouldn't just compare yourself to Hendrix because then you won't develop a style of your own and just end up imitating him.

too often pseudo-musicians try and claim that "from the soul" means to lazy to put lots of time into writing a song. which is the better song,
song A)
i write song about love. the lyrics i just decide to write down as they come to me
or song B)
I write a song about love. the lyrics i just decide to write down as the come to me. and then i take the time to make it as great as it can be, including paying attention to what makes good poetry.

I'm not anti-Hendrix, to narrow it down, what I'm meaning to say is, Hendrix in my opinion was not a technical guy, so when I write a song, I try not to make it technical. Call me lazy, I think it sounds good, but my singer is too god damn technical about, just because she takes creative writing classes.
