i have read through the tutorials all over the internet and am still undecided

i have a black yamaha pacifica body and i need to get the laquer off, im doin a white and black EVH paint job so i need blac paint underneath, but is it easier to strip everything off with a heat gun or just sand off the laquer finish?

i have a heat gun and sander so just need the advice?

well, since you have a black guitar, scuff sand it, to remove the clear, and then paint over top of it, as you normally would

yeah i reckoned that cos i have black finish under the clear then it would be easy enough to sand it , cheers for clearing that up

also grade 60 would eat through the clear coat in no time wouldnt it?

definitely, but do't go too far, do a couple runs with 60, then work progressively to 400, where you'll be ready to prime and paint.

Yeah I used 150 and it didn't take much effort at all to take off the clear coat. Just be careful, pay attention, and use a sanding block.

since you have a heating gun and sand paper, try them both and see which one is easier for you.
