We are all trying to get fuel out of corn and rice and stuff but because of doing this rice is harder to get this wich on its own leads to hunger in poor country's because we have no rice to give them anymore because it's too hard to get

That made fuck all sense. Even if it did, the point was invalid, since food is a renewable resource.

EDIT: Well, not food, but corn and rice are.

Yeah it is, but it would be hard to live up to the demands I'd say.

Only at first. Eventually we'll have plenty of stuff left over. Besides, it's not even a problem yet because the only countries where they use rice and corn for fuel are LEDCs, and those are the countries where they have plenty growing for food as well, so they just use the surplus supplies.

Yea, he's right. Mankind seems incapable of solving a problem without creating a new one. There are other problems associated with that too.

Like, for instance, the electrolytes used in the batteries that are used in hybrid cares are specialised chemicals. Chemicals that need to be mined for and are actually quite difficult to obtain. It has been estimated by many people, including people involved in such projects, that the amount of fuel consumed simply to mine for these special chemicals is actually considerably more than the amount of fuel that is saved by people using these cars, even if use of these cars is on a very large scale.

The solution to global warming is simple. Air conditioners. If we can cool down a house we can cool a planet, come on boffins!

I guess that's one way to look at it, but knowing the world leaders today, someone is bound to **** it up.

That's pretty obvious. The world always have one major problem issue to take over and when one is solved the next one comes in.

Maybe not in that aspect, but there will be a shift to what is the new calamity.

Think about it, it has been decades that one issue was going to bring us doom. Pollution, water, CFC, etc. Yet they suddenly dissapear when a new one arises. That being said, I do think Global Warming is real, yet more of a natural part of the earth's cycle, as instead of completely human made, so it is really blown out of proportion.

I agree, just we have sped up the process

My thinking of solving it, hydrogen fueled cars and nuclear fusion power stations. Now if only the smart ones out there would speed up research a bit and make it possible.

biofuels from food crops are a **** alternative since the energy that goes into growing/harvesting isn't really worth what you get out.

It has nothing to do with poor people.

Yes but there's still not enough of it..

Grow more, maybe?

But as I said in my other post, this isn't even a problem unless we adopt them as an alternative fuel, which won't happen because they're not a viable or efficient alternative.

If global warming was ever a problem anyway. A small while ago, there was an online petition where about 31,000 Scientists signed to the theory it wasn't. But then, of course, it was ingored because No scientist has such an ingenious and awesome grasp of the facts and truth as... Madonna. And Bono

That's only E85 Ethanol, and that's the United States' fault. The farm lobbyists are getting farmers huge, unnecessary subsidies, and part of these subsidies are going toward corn production for E85. Because of this, demand for E85 Ethanol goes up, and so goes the price of grain in the rest of the world. E85 is terribly inefficient and costs more carbon to make than the reduction in carbon it produces. Meanwhile, Brazil has been making Ethanol out of switch grass for years, which is a hundred times more efficient and cost-effective in reducing carbon emissions, but the effing U.S. farm lobbyists are still pushing for E85 subsidies.

In short, if the U.S. switched to switchgrass Ethanol, this wouldn't be a problem.
