so im goin to Guitar Center and im planning on buying a DigiTech Whammy Pedal either tommorow or the day after. I listen to and play a lot of Pantera and Damageplan and I know Dime used one so i really wanted to check it out. However, I was just reading the reviews on Musicians Friend and there were a lot of negative ones so i figured hey, ill ask UG and see what they think. Do any of you use a whammy pedal?? what kind of music do you play with it??

thanks

...that would be so badass.

I have one, mainly use it for messing around and the usual RATM wankery.

I think they're expensive novelties, basically. Sucks a noticeable amount of tone and the harmony settings are somewhat wobbly. It's a fun thing to have, but you won't use it much and it's the kind of thing you buy if you have £130 kicking around and nothing else to spend it on.

Or if you're in a RATM cover band.
A dwarf might hear you. What then?

I only use it on 2 or 3 songs I play

its all up to you really

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

another good idea
or you could sell you're amp if you're not happy with it?
and get something with that money plus more money?
idk
i'd much rather do those ideas, or different pedals than a whammy

Hiya !

Well, it's a bit like every FX out there: If you know how and where to use it, it's a fantastic tool, otherwise forget it... Guys like Tom Morello (RATM) or Justin Chancellor (Tool) serve them well. In my opinion, it works well with music styles that have at least a bit melody. I don't see much use for it in grindcore for exemple !

I use it wisely, just when it feels like (check my profile and/or Beyond Echoes song called "Meridian" for exemples. It's a band I'm part of...).

Cheers!

I've brought one and love it.
had it for a few months.

Can use it for some crazy effects, octaver on it is pretty good too. Its just learning to use it.
I've had it for a few months and don't believe i've used it too its full potential.

My friend has one. When we were in a band together, I used it a lot.
It was fun.
Main gear (For complete list, see profile):
Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain-top
Basswood Telecaster, 2 single-sized HB's, both split.
Epiphone Valve Junior
B-52 AT-412 Cabinet
Oh, and I have a Squier VM Jazz Bass too.

ts the point is this:
1. try it out, if you think you'll use it buy it
2. amp is THE most important thing you have (believe me i know, a **** amp, great board, and 2 great guitars is getting me a **** tone) and its best to have a great amp, and ****ty guitars than vice versa, so i'd go for the amp
3. as mentioned, single effects are tons better than any built in amp fx

well i have the same amp as you and a whammy and i think its a great bit of gear...

i am a bit of a bedroom guitar god and love playing around with it, definitely the best pedal i have, its great for messing around with throwing cool effects into songs just for fun!

if you are gigging then you may find that you dont use it loads but if you are like me then i would get one cause its really fun to play with and spice up your playing and it saves have a tremelo which are a hassle lol!
