Okay, I am looking to put in a small recording studio without breaking the bank.

this was posted in my local classifieds for $350.

Presonus Firestudio Project, BRAND NEW, 8 inputs, 64 tracks
Runs through FireWire
Cubase LE (recording software) is included

is that a good starting point? or is there something better for that price range?

EDIT: BTW, I'm using Vista, but I can get an XP computer if necessary.

Music isn't the Olympics. It's not about showing other people what you can do with a piece of wood in your hands that has strings on, it's about making sounds that are good.

I've used the Firepod before and had a blast. This seems like a fantastic deal. Just gotta get a couple mics, some cables, and some nice powered monitors and you'll be ready to go.
I think for Cubase alone that seems like a quite a steal. Isn't it like 600 bucks new?
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not
