Firebird, if you had to do either, which you don't really.

Just wondering. I kind of like the firebird. This is only if I do a custom build, which if I'm lucky I'll do completely by scratch, since I'm so much of a pennypincher that I refuse to buy off of Warmoth or any other body/neck supplier.
I know that sounds retarded, but please don't trash me. I have a dream, and I want to go through with it.
The SG is also in the question, I guess.

Definitely the Explorer out of those two. An Ibanez Xiphos/BC Rich Stealth/Jackson Warrior body would look cool as well, and Chuck Schuldiner used them. An RRV would look cool as well, but if you would only use one of those, then make it the Explorer.

The Xiphos looks neat, but it's a little too jagged. The explorer is different, I'm pretty sure you can play while sitting down with and explorer. But I feel liek I'll hurt myself with those.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

I like the Firebird but I like it done right with the thru-neck. I have an Explorer bass and it's real nice, a little top heavy but oh well. What about a Firebird Slasher custom deal?
#11
That's a firebird slasher? sick.

Yeah, the Xiphos would be kind of hard to make. Explorers shouldn't hurt you when you play sitting down, but I've never played an Explorer.
If you have a guitar shop in your area with both guitars, you could try them out to see which is most comfortable.

EDIT: That Firebird Slasher does look pretty sweet.

I have a guitar center around 15 minutes away from my house, but I'm not sure if they have firebirds OR explorers.

Chances are GC will have Explorers, not so much Firebirds. I ended up going there when this guy custom ordered a Firebird and ended up not wanting it so I got to play it, sounded very sweet. Too bad I didn't have the $3400 or so to drop on it.

By the way, does anyone know the dimensions for a Firebird? For example, the diagonal length both ways, body length, neck length? Oh, yeah, and the width at the bottom, top, and middle?
That's a lot of information, I know, but I want it to come out as perfect as possible.
Or if there's a link to templates that would be good. Unless I need to pay for templates. All I really need is a picture of a firebird with dimensions.

Just postin again so I don't have to make another thread. Sorry.
Is there any site where I can get dimensions for a firebird?

Really? The body's only 4 1/16 inches wide in the middle?
That doesn't sound right.
That's only this wide-

I believe they either use 3 mini humbuckers or 2 regular humbuckers depending on model. The Gibson Firebird VII uses 3 mini humbuckers, the Epiphone Firebird Studio uses 2 Alnico Classic humbuckers.

So it IS that small? Hmm, I think I might make the dimensions a little bigger.

You know, I MIGHT go with an explorer, because it seems liek an easier build than the firebird. Even though I DO like the firebird better.

It's just a different in shape. If you don't care about the whole "thru neck" thing, just take the specs of a Firebird Studio and build from there.

thats absolutly gorgeous ^

i lvoe firebirds i even got cheap epi one i couldnt resist

wher do u live dude im comign to steal ur guitar haha

Since I'm such a lazy @$$<beep>, I decided that I'm going to make a flying V, since the shape is easiest. Does anyone know the dimensions? It's no big deal, I can convince my mom to take me to guitar center so that I can measure it out, but If anyone knows, that means that we could save probably a dollar on gas and about 20 minutes of our day.

Firebirds are awesome. I just built one recently.

BTW, did you build the body and neck? If so, out of what material?
