So my quest for a new amp is still going on.

Budget: ~$1500, trying to keep it lower than that though

Genres: Everything (Metal, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Neo-Classical, Shred, Pop, Country) Mostly shred/metal stuff.

Features: All I need is an independent clean, rhythm, and lead channel.

These are the tones I'm going for

Lead

Rhythm

As you can see, I'm mostly looking for a lead amp with a John Petrucci-esque lead tone. I know he uses Road Kings and used to use Mark IVs which is why I was looking at them.

For rhythm I'm looking at more of an 80's metal Dokken/Van Halen kinda tone.

I can't exactly afford a Soldano SLO so is there a cheaper alternative to those tones or should I just go for the Mark IV (My original plan)/Road King?

I could also possibly extend my budget to about $2000

Look into ENGL... you could probably find a used Powerball for around $1500, or at least a Fireball for that or cheaper...
Don't get your hopes up with the Mark IV's, though, they just stopped producing them, so prices will probably skyrocket...

I know, I've been looking on the used market and can get one right now for $950

I'd also go with the Carvin V3.

You found it better than the Mark IV for leads?

I haven't played the Mark IV. The Mark IV probably doesn't have the kind of voicing you want though, it seems like you want the British sound.
