Ok, So in my band, it is set up like this. There is Alex on vocals [lead singer/screamer], Brandon on bass [...Bass.], me on guitar [guitar and backup screaming/singing] and then Morgan [also a guy, just to clarify things] on drums [drums and ocasionally singing]. Ok. So there's that. Now... We were practicing one of our own songs, and Alex is Like... ****in.... a really good screamer, right? But on this song, both of us do a lot of screaming. I'm not as good as him. I'm either doing it wrong, or i just have a really weak gag reflex because i nearly puke every time we get half way through the song. I even did once. [that was the embarassing part] so what is the 'proper' way to scream ? xDD I'd imagine it would be hard to explain... but... any tips??? I'd ask Alex, but hes like... a stoner guy and he always says "It just comes to me" or some stupid **** like that. So do u have any tips for screaming??? Lol.

Just open up and belt it. It's taken me a while to understand how my singing voice works, it just takes work. You'll get there eventually.

Screaming = not singing.

WHO THE HELL LISTENS TO SCREAMING?
"Even though I've found God, I still love blow jobs, and I still say fuck." - Dave Mustaine

You know, when you, like, you grab a woman's breast and it's... and you feel it and... it feels like a bag of sand when you're touching it.

You should post this in the vocal tips thread, but I suggest going for the growling approach for the following reasons:

It will give your band more diversity.
It won't seem like you are trying to 'compete' with your lead vocalist

Growling > Screaming anyway but that is just my opinion.

What's the big deal with Gibsons, anyway?
I've heard loads of Gibsons being played before
and they don't sound any more special than
any other guitar.

Hmmm,

I've heard of some people whispering, or screaming/growling in a really quiet voice

and doing so into a microphone that's turned up loud so that they don't kill their voices.

maybe you can try that.

It'll save your vocal chords anyway.

Growling is far superior sounding to screaming. Unless you're really into the emo scene and you think that you're producing good music, I'd look into growling. If you want to stick with emo/whatever your genre is, I'd let Alex do the work and since you can't scream, do backup vocals.

It's physiology's way of telling you that screaming music blows.

Ya, he doesn't suck on cucumbers enough. Improving your gag reflex is the only way to go, all other options that don't involve sucking on something penis shaped at least a half an hour a day are completely wrong.

Trust metal to take screaming, a once extremely rare technique used for massive effect, and use it non stop throughout songs. It just completely takes away from it. No one wants to listen to a kid scream until he vomits, it's probably a sign you should stop?

just stick to guitar and maybe you guys can actually try to make this thing. i call it music you might not know what it is but you will realize that it won't make you vomit or give you a headache.
