I plan on building a 1x15 bass cab, but have no idea on what to use for a homemade kickguard. Ive looked around for stuff but did find anything that was very sturdy. Any ideas?

get a sheet of metal and chain drill holes in it that could work, could go rusty too but hey :P

I assume you're talking about faceplates here. I used expanded metal on my cab builds, works nice, looks good and is easy to install.

Use aluminum, stainless steel, or a light-weight steel that is also very sturdy. Wight will be a big issue. And also rust, make sure the steel you choose doesn't rust, cause then you'll just be changing kickguards every couple years.
