hey guys. has any of you used or are you still using GHS Dave Mustaine Progressives or Daddario EXL140? i was thinking of replacing my strings with a heavier gauge (i use 10-46) bass strings but still retaining the 10-13-17 treble strings.

Any thoughts or opinions on these strings? and what's the material they used for the Progressive strings? are they nickel or stainless steel?

here's some links:

IMHO, LTHB sets are just bad bacon. Of course this is just my opinion and many people swear by them...I simply look at the numbers and cringe...

0.013 15.4
0.017 16.6
0.026 18.4

You're adding nearly 18lbs of tension to half the neck. If that doesn't horrify you, go with the D'addarios

I vote the D'addarios because from my experience, GHS strings break too damn easily.

can't the neck withstand this gauge? i'm going to adjust the truss rod when i do this.

Of course it can be adjusted to accomodate, I just don't like the idea of unevenly loading the neck

What tuning you play in also has a big role in tension.

Obviously, but as long as you're using any form of a standard tuning (EADGBe), the neck is going to be unevenly loaded.

But with relaxed tension from tuning down a half or whole step the risk is nil or minimal to a neck. There's really nothing to worry about.

Probably not, still its just one of those things I'll never be comfortable with, hence never advocate

Like I said though, WAY to many people run them for them to be harmful.
