I have a question for you all, I play blues with a jamming side, (Mayer, Clapton, SRV type of stuff) and I have a epiphone valve junior head and cab, I was thinking about adding a Fender Blues Junior to run at the same time as my valve junior. My question is, how do you think this would sound, or if you could suggest another amp that would sound pretty sweet with it, that'd be cool too. Like I said before, i want to nail a Mayerish clean tone with slight overdrive for leads and more rocking songs. Guitars and pedals in sig.
Are you happy with the clean tone you're getting right now? If so, then I'd just recommend a nice boutique level OD to push it. But if you're wanting another amp just to have another flavor around, then the blues junior would be perfect. Try one out first if you can, you may not like the OD channel on it.
Actually I'm loving the tone I'm getting, Its very very John Mayerish clean I couldnt believe it when I got the amp how awesome it is. I may look into some keeley pedals though, any you could reccomend?
Keely's are some nice pedals, but I prefer the sound of the Xotic BB preamp. Very smooth breakup and has a very musical tone. If you've ever heard of Andy Timmons, he uses one religiously. Anyway, here's what one sounds like through a clean amp with a Strat.
