The Loomis is my next guitar I will buy, I seriously doubt you would be dissappointed with that or the Hellraiser. The Hellraiser is going to be a bit darker with the Mahogany body, and the Loomis will be a bit brighter (but still with a hard bite) with the combonation of the Maple fretboard and Ash body.
Got a question about Baritone guitars? Feel free to PM me.

Thanks to UG, I converted from Metalcore to some "real" Metal.

ibanez rg1527 (lock-trem, passive)
ibanez rg7ef2 (fixed, active)
ibanez rg7321 (fixed, passive)

they're all way below your $2000 budget.

you can change the pickups with the money you save.

wow no one is mentioning steve vai's universe. quite strange

uv777 is 2x the price of rg1527.
the only differences are the pickups and the neck wood (wenge vs walnut).
one's a basswood body and the other's an american basswood body.

Honestly, do you really think CB would use the lowest-end RG7 when he has access to LACS and J-Customs? I haven't even seen him use a fixed bridge RG7...

+1 on the RG1527.

There's a picture of him with what appears to be an RG7321 on his website on the gear page and he's definitely on stage with it. But at the moment he is mostly using his beautiful LACS RG 7 which is just

^ (@ Broderick custom) i drool every time i see that.....i kinda prefer his purple one though.

But the C-7 Hellraiser is a very solid choice, it will cover all types of heavy metal....including death and really brutal stuff thanks to the extended scale length. But you may find that the EMG's are slightly better voiced towards that type of music, it depends how versatile you need the guitar to be, plus Schecter 7 string necks are renowned for being slightly chunky.

But i recommend looking into a used old Universe model, or if your really lucky it may be possible to pick up a JP7 at slightly over $2000 (£1000?) or so. Ibanez models may be more convenient to look into as they revolve around thinner necks and better upper fret access.

For br00tal's on a 7 a Schecter Loomis or Hellraiser would be a really ideal choice, but if you want a thinner neck then an Ibanez Xiphos7 Really kicks ass for death metal, no question about it. IMO mahogany gives a better impact more bassier sound for death metal that basswood just doesn't deliever on it's own. Of course lots of brutal bands, like Suicide Silence, have used Ibanez RG7620's and 7420's, but the other guitarist always had an ESP in hand or a custom Ibanez with mahogany body. Now both of them use Mahogany and it just sounds so much more crushing in their recording, so if you like the strat shape check out the ESP Stef Carpenter 7 strings (the ones that are in your price range).

It may of been black flame, but it definately looked purple when i went to go see Megadeth a couple of months ago, i was right at the front so i get a good look at his whole set up going on there.

I got an RG7321, and it plays great but im on a budget but since your a lil less constricted then me, i would go with the Rusty Cooley sig Dean, i played it at guitar center and i fell in love with it, and i like the idea of the Vai sig (i adore Vai and all his guitars) but i sadly think you can do better for a 7string, but honestly, if your bidget is $2000, go for the ESP 8string man its got a low F# and thats pretty redic, im personally savin for the Ibby 8string myself, but the ESP isnt bad by any means.
