I finally have the fretboard memorized and I'm working on figuring out keys. I think I have it down I just need someone to check my work.

I picked an easy song. In this case it's Long Way Down by the Goo Goo Dolls.

The Chords are

A5-A-E-A
B5-B-F#-B
D5-D-A-D
C#5C#-G#-C#
G5-G-D-G

The solo contains the notes A B C# D E F#

So since all the notes in this song fit into the A Major scale I've determined that Long Way Down by the Goo Goo Dolls is in the key of A Major.

Is this correct?

Looking up the tab now I'd say the G# is a typo so look at the notes again. Looks like it's in D major from the tab I found.

The notes:
A B C# D E F# G#
is A Major

BUT

here we have
A B C# D E F# G
So the key would be D Major

The G# only shows up in a quick barre chord in the intro so it's probably not part of the key.

Yes D Major makes more sense. I jumped to conclusions to quickly.

I'll try again later with another song.

Thanks for the help.
