So I'm sitting here putting all my bands song lyrics together in a notebook and thought about showing some of you all to see what you think and for you to criticize. Ill do so in a few minutes.

But on the same topic what are some of your guys favorite lyrics from punk music?

Or what are some lyrics you have wrote that you love?
#2
If you want your lyrics critiqued, I suggest you post them in the Songwriting & Lyrics sub-forum: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7

Anyway, some of my favorite lyrics:
Come neighbor, get ready to dance for your bread
My son, I was once where you stand
There's a beast with insatiable hunger
It's minions need crafters and skilled, working hands
Needs a fortress high in the hilltops
And we are the great, chosen crew
But I am a lowly carpenter, so, what have i power to do?

Oh, misery! Call us to rise up at dawn
To turn whey as fast as we can
We may be the mortar that cradles the brick,
but i am just one grain of sand.

And don't tell me i'm tossing the wretched
It only brings pleasure and pain
And we are all lowly carpenters, so,
Where we're taken is where we remain

And the master shall govern with unbroken backs
Look down from the top of the hills
You could cry through the night just as much as you like
There will always be towers to build

I coulda been more than some stone-dragging vessel
I could be more than their wood-cutting slave
But we are all lowly carpenters, so, what have we power to change?

And if you can't take no more, then get out of the way
For we've got a day to get through
We wire their castles, their prisons, and banks
Know their mansions from cellar to roof
We've got hammers, and wrenches, and chisels
We could destroy any great wall we come through
But I am a lowly carpenter, so, what have i power to do?
And clenching your fist for the ones like us
Who are oppressed by the figures of beauty,
You fixed yourself, you said, "Well, never mind,
We are ugly, but we have the music."

I know the song writing and lyrics forum I was going to post some there was well. I figure you guys might understand them more or understand more of where I'm coming from though. Would any of you critique them here?

Edited second post:

I posted one of my songs in the songwriting and lyrics.

Its pretty much an Operation Ivy like Jesse Michaels feel of flow and singing. But thats just the lyrics up.

Tell me what you think

My favorites of mine are:

I HATE BONO:
Full of himself
That ****ing asshole
Always giving
Never killing
You think he's good
But his voice is dumb
He doesn't do
As much as you might think.

ARMIN MEIWES WAS A PRETTY SILLY GUY:
Armin
Meiwes
Is my
Best friend
He's cool
You know
He is
Gangster
My super best friend
Chopped up his date
The guy wanted to be
As well as ate
Pretty silly
Wouldn't you say
Teeheehee
He's pretty cool.

Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night - The Hold Steady. This Song almost makes me like the fact that I will probably end up with a lousy English degree because maybe I will be able to write something like this.

http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858652812

Can't Hardly Wait - The Replacements. Westerberg not only speaks to me but for me. The couplet about Jesus is great.

http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=58986

Bastards of Young - The Replacements. Nemo once spoke of this song in a positive light. Which is weird 'cuz I always thought that he only listened to like 3 bands. Anyway, it's another obvious but good example of Paul's stuff and I relate a lot to it. Even though it's not really about the current generation.

http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=57012

Sweet Jane - Velvet Underground. This is my favorite song. The Bridge is absolutely glorious. A Happy song about poor people. Imagine.

As I was walking through a life one morning
The sun was out, the air was warm but ohh,
I was cold,
and though I must have looked a half a person,
to tell the tale in my own version,
It was only then that I felt whole.

Do you believe in something beautiful?
Then, get up and be it
Fighting for the smallest goal:
to get a little self-control.
I know how hard you try.
I see it in your eyes.
Call your friends, 'cause we've forgotten
What it's like to eat what's rotten,
and what's eating you alive,
might help you to survive.

We went on, as we were on a mission,
latest in a Grand Tradition.
Ohh, what did we find?
It was Ego who was flying the banner,
Me and Mia, Ann and Ana, ohh,
we'd been unkind.

Do you believe in something beautiful?
Then, get up and be it
Fighting for the smallest goal:
to get a little self-control.
I see it in your eyes,
I see it in your spine,
But call your friends, 'cause we've forgotten
What it's like to eat what's rotten
And what's eating you alive,
Might help you to survive

Even the nights that could get better.
And even the days aren't all that bad.
And after a week of fighting,
As more and more it seems the right thing

Do you believe in something beautiful?
Then get up and be it
Fighting for the smallest goal:
To gain a little self-control
Won't anybody here just let you disappear?
Not doctors, nor your mom nor dad,
But me and Mia, Ann and Ana
Know how hard you try,
Don't you see it in my eyes?

Sick to death of my dependence,
Fighting food to find trancendence.
Fighting to survive.
More dead, but more alive.
Cigarettes and speed to live,
And sleeping pills to feel forgiven.
All that you contrive,
And all that you're deprived.

All the bourgeois social angels
Telling you you've got to change.
Don't have any idea.
They'll never see so clear.
But don't forget what it really means to
hunger strike,
When you don't really need to
Some are dying for the cause, but that don't make it yours.
And even the nights, they could get better

I remember UG had a video of Ted Playing that song on his acoustic way back when and I watched it over and over to get the chords for that song because no tab existed at the time.

Tis a good song.

It's life! life!
Life is the only thing worth living for
Yes life! life!
Life is the only thing worth...
Life! life!

slf - roots, radicals, rockers and reggae

You roots, you radicals, you rock to the reggae
You roots, you radicals, you dub to the reggae
you roots, you radicals, you skank to the reggae, you roots

Let there be peace in the east, peace in the west
You roots, you radicals and all the rest
I said peace up north, peace down south
Peace in the ghettoes all round about
We are all in a one and one in all
So throw away the guns and the war's all gone
Throw away the hunger and the war's all gone
Throw away the fighting and the war's all gone
Throw away the grudges and the war's all gone.

C'mon you roots, you radicals, you rock to the reggae
You roots, you radicals, you dub to the reggae
You roots, you radicals, you skank to the reggae, you roots

Love and respect you itren and protect your little sistren
And the same shall return to you, my friend
I said don't fight against no colour class or creed
For on discrimination does violence breed
I said we are all in a one and on in all
So throw away the guns and the war's all gone
Throw away the hunger and the war's all gone
Throw away the fighting and the war's all gone
Throw away the grudges and war's all gone

C'mon you roots, you radicals, you rock to the reggae
You roots, you radicals, you dub to the reggae
You roots, you radials, you skank to the reggae, you roots
Come on now

Comfort the afflicted and keep them from harm
Let age be protected and the infants be strong
GO FOR IT

You got to pass the bowl and make the food go round
Cos that's the only way to trample crime to the ground
Equal rights and justice for one and all
Cos only through liberty freedom shall form
Don't fight against no colour class nor creed
For on discrimination does violence breed
We are all in a one and one in all
So throw away the guns and the war's all gone
Throw away the hunger and the war's all gone
Throw away the fighting and the war's all gone
Throw away the guns and the war's all gone
Throw away the hunger and the war's all gone
Throw away the fighting and the war's all gone
Throw away the grudges and the war's all gone

My own
Keep us quiet keep us ignorant
we dont need to think thanks to the government
we just pay our taxes and keep our heads down
while the media circus runs the monkeys around

the complexity of the human condition
how do we know what we want if we dont know what we're missing
somebody's gotta listen, somebody's gotta give in
to the battle cry of destiny's victims
we dont know what we want but we sure as hell want it now

they got so caught up in their own convictions
they flew to far up and their promises melted
and they came tumbling down, head first through the clouds
to land upon their knees before the disenchanted crowds

and to try and solve the problem of their obvious descent
they tear the shirts right off our backs, broken and bent
we're desperate for answers but we dont know the right questions
while the shadows whisper meekly, revolution, revolution
“I smoke. If this bothers anyone, I suggest you look around at the world in which we live and shut your f*ckin' mouth.” RIP

Aus Rotten - The Flag will cover coffins

Burn your countries flags
**** your patriotic pride
**** the politicians and the **** they try to hide
They make you pay their taxes and they make you fight their wars
But they won't feed the hungry and they don't care about the poor
Instead they try and take you for all your ****ing worth
And they separate with flags all the people of the earth
They exploit our different cultures and enhance our sickening greed
And they get the hatred rising which is exactly what they need
But what about the people's needs
Will they be unfulfilled
Ane what of those who speak out? Will those "traitors" then be killed?
The only traitors that exist are the traitors to mankind
The ones who put the money first and the people's need behind
They say is we don't love our country then get the hell out
Should we be thankful to die in battle for what our flag's about?
Well **** off
**** you
****ing hear this
Your ignorant petty support doesn't mean piss
Don't support, no matter what the cause
Your ****ing flags and damn religion just feed corporate claws
I renounce my citizenship from the U.S.A. and I'd suggest the same for any country
Because countries kill the people's will with their patriotic lie
And every ****ing day you're killing who they say and you never even wonder why
Why do we blindly follow what our leaders have to say?
Instead let's make them answer to the people they betray
We don't owe our leaders anything so **** what they demand
Then disregard their ****ing lies and bury them where they stand
The flags will cover coffins where these ****iers will now lie
And we'll give a flag to their families when these poor bastards die
Natonalistic pride is ****ing **** why can't the people see
As long as flags fly up above us no one's really free
Free?

And my own :
H.M.asS - Sei Putschist

Sei Putschist!

Oooh nice! I think the best lyrics on that album come from "How a resurrection really feels though"

Her parents named her Hallelujah, the kids all called her Holly.
If she scared you then she's sorry.
She's been stranded at these parties.
These parties they start lovely but they get druggy and they get ugly and they get bloody.

The priest just kinda laughed.
The deacon caught a draft.
She crashed into the Easter Mass with her hair done up in broken glass.
She was limping left on broken heels.
When she said Father can I tell your congregation how a resurrection really feels?

Holly was a hoodrat.
Now you finally know that.
She's been disappeared for years.
Today she finally came back.
She said: St. Louis had enslaved me.
I guess Santa ana saved me.
St. Peter had me on the queue.
The St. Paul Saints they waved me though.
I was all wrapped up in some video booth.
When I heard her say I love you too.

She said I've laid beneath my lovers but i've never gotten laid.
Some nights she felt protected.
Some nights she felt afraid.
She spent half last winter just trying to get paid.
From some guy she'd originally thought to be her savior.
They wrote her name in magic marks.
On stop signs and subway cars.
They got a mural up on East 13th.
That said Hallelujah rest in peace.
Hallelujah was a hoodrat.
And now you finally know that.
She's been disappeared for years.
Today she finally came back.

Walk on back.
Walk on back.
She said don't turn me on again.
I'd probably just go and get myself all gone again.
Holly was a sexy mess.
She looked strung out but experienced.
So we all got kind of curious.

Ska Wars wins with Mischief Brew - The Lowly Carpenter.

I just learned how to play this song:

"Zombies vs. Robots"

I raise from the grave,
When the dead start to walk,
and i grab zombie dave and say,
"it's time to rock!"
we zombies are hungry,
and we're gonna stalk,
the robots are coming our way,
we attack in a pack,
with razor sharp teeth.
and we bite and we hack,
but they dont taste like beef,
oil thirsty zombies won't taste defeat,
cause we're are forever at war.
fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting
WE FIGHT!

no ones knows why,
well be fighting untill we die,
no ones knows why,
well be fighting untill we die,
no ones knows why,
well be fighting untill we die,
no ones knows why,
well be fighting

We came from the year 2135
With our hard metal gear and our laser beam eyes
Power cells flowing
Zombies won’t be knowing
We’ll take ‘em on dead or alive
Will blow off their faces and rip off their limbs
At only ten paces, their chance looks real slim
We’re programmed to kill
The zombies on sight
And we don’t ask why

fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting
WE FIGHT!

no ones knows why,
well be fighting untill we die,
no ones knows why,
well be fighting untill we die,
no ones knows why,
well be fighting untill we die,
no ones knows why,
well be fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting
WE FIGHT!

These are my favorite lyrics that I've written:

"Burn Down Suburbia"

**** this city, **** the world
I was not placed her e just to serve
The politicians and CEOs
Where 90% of the money goes

We were told this money would trickle down
To the hard working people of this town
But we soon found out they lied
When we noticed growth in the wealth divide

They told us that we’d be well paid
For the useless **** that we made
But soon found that they meant
That we would struggle to pay the rent

And **** this glorious USA
I break my back for measly pay
And now they tell me I’ve got no job
Cause they found someone else that they can rob

I’m sorry I don’t drive an SUV
And white picket fences are not for me
I ****ing hate suburban neighborhoods
And I’d burn them all down if I could

I think there has to be something more
Than getting ****ed like a corporate *****
But that’s the way the system’s set
High expectations that can’t be met

When the honest people who make the goods
Don’t get the percentage that they should
This town will always take a back seat
To the wealthy millionaire elite

Is that all there is to life?
Having a job and a beautiful wife?
Settling down to raise a kid
To grow up to do what his daddy did?

But still I’m forced to play along
Can’t live off revolution songs
I don’t get paid for what I play
Cause the system’s been set up that way

I’m sorry I don’t drive an SUV
And white picket fences are not for me
I ****ing hate suburban neighborhoods
And I’d burn them all down if I could

Yeah, I’d burn down suburbia
I’d burn down suburbia
Let’s burn down suburbia….

Struggle

Back then it used to be about taking chances never asking
Pushing through these walls stacked with bricks that seem forever lasting
Fear of people taking action, fail at life its just a task
Make me struggle in the past so I just won't last

Its friends before fame but of course you're typical not the same
Took the advantage from the start seems that you'll never change
Ignorance is standard in this pitiful class of pampers
And these rights and paper bills in this bubble full of standards

We're not tryin to hide it anymore now you know we won't take this, NO MORE
We've heard too many lies all before we're coming out to settle, THIS SCORE

Beat down and trapped you know you can't get out, from the struggle
Losing sight of whats it about, constant juggle
I hold the cards that I am dealt but they're, always changing
Broken beaten and I JUST CAN'T WIN

Divide us if you want with social classes that disable us we're coming together to get this straight, you can't enable us
Greed and selfishness n its fight for the fame
Don't conform now thats just food for their game
Always clocking in n out with no help from each other
We gotta take a stand and love one an other
All these things aganst us that are bringing us down
I'm taking off the world that hugged my back now

We're not tryin to hide it anymore now you know we won't take this, NO MORE
We've heard too many lies all before we're coming out to settle, THIS SCORE

Beat down and trapped you know you can't get out, from the struggle
Losing sight of whats it about, constant juggle
I hold the cards that I am dealt but they're, always changing
Broken beaten and I JUST CAN'T WIN

I really like the lyrics to In Their Dreams by the Freeze

She never saw the abusive person
Until the welts on her kids showed up
Now she lives with his threatening gestures
And the slaps meant to shut her up

But in her dreams she can stop him breathing
In her dreams her knife cuts through his neck

Around the house there's a mounting tension
She keeps the gun from her purse at home
What was love's in a new dimension
Inside herself there's peace alone

In her dreams there's a neat solution
In her dreams he admits his guilt
In her dreams he seeks out counseling
In her dreams no one needs to be killed

She wants to drown him
She'd like to cut his hands off
Electrocute him
Only turn the power off
When he's sunny side up

While he worked she withdrew their money
Lit a match and let the memories burn
Took the kids and kept on driving
All she knows is they won't return

Now in his dreams he controls his anger
In his dreams he protects the kids
In his dreams he can stop her leaving
In her dreams he can live through all of this

And here's a song I wrote a while ago. It doesn't have a chorus, but rather a little guitar lead. It sounds cool when my band plays it.

Learned a lot the past few years about what I think is true
Never even thought the world could make me feel so blue
Authority is oppressive and the church is spreading lies
Darwin's wrong cause society should be attracting flies

Survival off the fittest sh*t is getting to my head
If it's true then why isn't half the country dead?
Are the idiots around me fit enough to be alive?
If that's really true then perhaps Darwin took a bribe

I'm getting really pissed off now, you people are a joke
Morons are in power, America's dripping out its yoke
Please rewrite the science books before I go insane
If stupid's fit then smart is weak and things remain the same

Eveything Went Numb - Streetlight Manifesto

And the story goes like this:

Everything went numb for the money and the guns,
and everytime he'd think it out: "there's nothing to worry about
get in the van, don't deviate from the plan
if everything goes smooth then you'll walk away a rich man"
so it begins, everybody walks in
could this be the way or the day that the underdog wins?
i think not, so i bet on the feds because the black hat men never win in the end, so...

Ski mask (check)
Sawn-off (check)
Guilty conscience, fear of death (check, check, check)
Everything went numb when he stumbled upon what he thought
was going to be another means to the end
Silence
Sirens
It all went down like his nightmare the night before
I don't want to hear
I don't want to be near
I do what I got to do just to keep my nose clean

The story doesn't end here
Don't fear for our hero ain't near the end, my friend
Let's take it back to how it all began: with a proposition
and proposition starts with a capital p
"or at least for me" is what he said to himself
but himself ain't a lot when he's got nothing left
of what was once a man, loved and loving
he took that trip that turns something to nothing
right and wrong
there's not a lot a difference when you're singing that poor man's song
and that song, it goes just a little like this:

Na na na...

Ski mask (check)
Sawn-off (check)
Guilty conscience, fear of death (check, check, check)
Everything went numb when he stumbled upon what he thought
was going to be another means to the end
Silence
Sirens

Fedallah's Hearse

As so many practiced diplomats, so too your vaunted laureates, whose access to the higher rungs of a cultural priesthood is hinged upon their flat for sophistry. Well, I vote you the best equipped to shrink from speech that might suggest any thoughts your key target-market might not have already signed-off on and ratified. And I vote you most likely to clutter your language with so much deadwood that no amount of pruning will reveal your intensive, protracted campaign of saying nothing at all. Your daydreams of black tie affairs at Rideau Hall. Your acceptance speech. Your dramatic pause. Don't forget to thank those bitter ex-musicians cum embedded rock-journalists frantically applauding the latest artist-formerly-known-as iconoclast, giddy from the fumes of a fresh detection, moping to the maudlin beat of a hat rack rhythm section, a tacit understanding of mutual non-aggression enjoyed by every nauseating do-nothing functionary. Really, it's not so much the incessant ruse of assigning profound meaning to the meaningless curios you decorate your sets with in your extraordinarily mundane fictions. It's the (colossal) arrogance of the subtext: the province of human affairs is a field best left to dilettantes with and extraordinary gift for feigning of paralysis. For saying nothing at all. For daydreams of black tie affairs at Rideau Hall. An acceptance speech. Sustained applause.

There's too many you could post from Propagandhi.
