Alright so for my next project in shop class i wanna build a guitar. The thing is i wanna have this guitar "different". I dont want it to be the normal wood body with a gloss black finish. Something that nobody else has. So now im wondering what material should i make the guitar body from other than wood. or what should i use, what paint scheme. I want something truely unique. Discuss please.

Some ideas:
Plexi glass
Copper
Sheetmetal
Clay pottery
Guitars:
Dean Razorback Explosion =D
Schecter Omen 6
Ibanez 30 Exotic Wood =D
Custom Les Paul w/EMG

Amps:
Line 6 Spider II :S
Peavey ValveKIng Halfstack

Pedal:
Boss ME-50

jeez you shouldn't judge someone by the guitar they use man.

but on topic, Plexiglass will be cool, cuz you could make it see through and you could see all the wires and what not in the body.

Marble makes a great guitar. Sustain for days and days. You'll just need a stand to play it on.

Seriously, if you can pull of the perspex idea, that would be so cool. You'd want to do it well though.

rubber! Imagine the stage moves with a rubber guitar, you could dribble it like a basketball!

I'm pretty sure Steve Vai already uses a plexiglass guitar, so it's not that original. However, it still looks freakin' cool, especially if you can color it or put in LEDs.

I've used a fiberglass guitar before and they're heavier than an original les paul so it would probably not be your gig guitar

Anyway you could do plexiglas with a wood core? Also, make it a semi hollow, that would be awesome.

I have this dream of building a guitar out of found objects only. Metal cans, broken furniture, plastic containers, cereal boxes, pvc tubing... Anything, except for a toilet seat body. It's been done :

If your gonna do it on sheet metal, I wouldn't make it out of steel, iron, or nickel. They're magnectic, and I'm pretty sure that wil affect something..

Or it might make the sustain go on for ages, but I guess it would be heavy..

EDIT: Just a find, but there is a metal guitar...

I would make it out of plexi stuff then!

here's a REALLY random idea...
maybe you could take a stack of paper and glue all the sheets together.. then line th outside with Popsicle sticks or something... like an arts and crafts guitar. on second thought... routing the cavities and such would kinda suck haha but it would be cool if you can pull it off

The clay guitar was attempted by I think InvaderJim - If I remember it didn't work out too well; trouble wiring after firing and cracking the body.

You should do like wood with through-body metal inlays, that'd be pretty unique.

i got a genuis idea, make it out of car parts, or better yet, make a replica of a old cadillac fender (The finned kind) out of metal, paint it up pink, and do some chrome, and add some chrome pickups, and you would be golden, well atleast to me.
