Hi,

My dad's 50th birthday is coming, and I'd like to buy him a bass or a bass amp. He already has a crappy Baltimore (100 bucks or sth), and crap Johnson bass amp. I'd like to know, which would make his sound better? A new amp, or a new bass?

He usually plays 60's and 70's stuff, no need for metal.

He only needs it for home, so the lower Ws = the better.

Thanks in advance!

If he's only playing at home, he'd probably appreciate a new bass more.

Yeah, I thought the same, but I'm afraid it will sound just the same (crap) through this ****ty amp. Anyways, what can You recommend? I think he'd like a fretless one, because he used to play violin for 8 years.

Thanks

He meant that in Hungary where he lives it costs 500 bucks.

TS, have you considered buying from an online store like thomann.de? They usually have lower prices, and they ship to any country in Europe for just 20 euros.

Probably a bit.

Remember - Good bass through crap amp - crap.

Okay bass through good amp - Good.

Yes the VM squiers are prety decent. And he can always get another practice amp reasonable cheap like a fender rumble 15 or something. The bass itself will be an improvement over what he has now.

The fender i mentioned or Peavy make realy nice amps. Maybe an ashdown (is a bit more expensive)

Just don't get a Behringer as they have the tendency to fall apart even on the advertising folder.

Things to considder:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-MAX-158-Bass-Practice-Combo?sku=481448
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Rumble-15-Bass-Combo-Amp?sku=480718
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ashdown-After-Eight-8-Combo-Bass-Amp?sku=485038

Those 3 are nice practice amps.
