I play with two hands. The most effective method IMO.

EDIT: There's a poll now.

Technically speaking, arent you supposed to be dead?

And people post your actual habits as comments too! We want to hear from how you guys spend time with your six stringed buddies! Enough of just nerding around with the mammoth 10 choice poll, get your typing fingers on!

it progresses from option 1 to 2 then 4

i don't play along with the song unless i know all of it

I cannot possibly pick 1! But there are my answers. Most of the time I try to work on my own songs, which start as a riff, then Chord Progressions (my amazing part), and then lyrics. Sometimes the lyrics just pop into my head and I go around that though.

Well, I'm a beginner to both guitar and music theory, and I'm in the process of writing my first song. So right now I'm mostly strumming chord progressions and trying to come up with melodies and lyrics.

one of the best first posts I've seen lately

On Thread: Well I mostly play other artists stuff, I'm not that original when it comes to creating something new and know 0 about theory

Anyways, I just have fun

I do a mixture really.
Play other artists stuff.
Play other artists stuff with backing tracks AND to the actual tracks.
Fiddle about with scales and chords and stuff.
Jam to my own sorta stuff to myself (like think of a cool riff or chord progression and work on it)
I don't just do one thing to practice.
#25
I voted for the 1st one.

I try to learn bits from different songs for my own amusement. I don't play in a band so I don't need to learn the whole thing all the time.

I think a lot of guitarists, including myself, mix many of the poll options to develop their overall style and tone.

Well I picked the last one but I do a bit of everything. I think the best day of my life so far was when I got my Fender 900 combo with the footswitch. I fiddle with the effects and settings for hours on end now. I think I have a problem :P
