so im asking again as my budget seemed to have expanded.
i play rock/ alternative rock ranging from led zepplin style to queens of the stone age. i have my fx gear (sig) and i am looking for an amp 15-50 watt tube something that is versatile and within the price range of $0~$1500 my main contenders would be a marshall 50watt head + 2x12 cab, or vox ac30, please give me some suggestions! thanks!

Get a Vox Ad50VT.
I got one recently and it definitely is the best amp i've ever had. It has different amp settings and different effects built right into it. Its only $350.
Hope this helped.

I love metal but death metal's just a bit too much for me. The most I can get into is serious-illness metal.

I'd check out the new Vox heads as well. Pretty good sounding.
I really don't care for the new JVM marshalls, and they discontinued the JCM 2000, but maybe the vintage modern? I haven't heard it yet, but I've heard good things.
I don't know what the pricing for them is, but I'd check out Orange as well.
Alvarez dreadnought
Gibson SG
EC-1000
Homemade Strat (seymour duncan classic stack p/ups)
Vox Tonelab (original desktop model) with full board footswitch
Vox AD50

With a grand and a half, a valvetronix better not be the best he can get.
I'd say:
Combos:
el diablo
blackstar 30
kustom coupe
egnater tourmaster
peavey jsx
Stacks:
Peavey xxx(maybe too br00tal)
Peavey jsx
Tourmaster
El diablo

generally the vibe around UG concerning VM's result in
"its over priced, its this, its that, result? go for an Orange"

I tried the VM and loved the vintage modern better than the oranges in my price range.

The VM in my opinion is perfect for any rock music from the 60's to the 80's, its very versatile and can also do QOTSA with ease.

Id reccomend you to try the VM in person, though a few diffect types of speakers, its the best way to do it,
try it, especially if its in budget + then make your own opinion

any opinions on 50 watt marshall heads in the price range of 1000? (the rest would be for a 2x12, i saw the dsl2000 50 watts around, but harmony central reviews lean more toward the vox ac30cc2

Epiphone Dot
DIY Esquire w/Neovin Power Rock pickup
Vox AC30VR 212
Arion MTE-1 (LED clipping diodes added)
Vox Tonelab LE
Roland SDE1000 delay

I love it for the versatility and effects and the price (got mine for 300 new).

But if I had a grand and a half, I would definitely get an AC30.

Why are people saying for him to get a $300 AD50VT when he's got $1500...

Friend, I would recommend the Vox AC30. Great amp.

Vintage Modern for its versatility.

Just make sure you play EVERY amp in your price range.
Who knows, you may like something which is worth 1000 dollars better than one worth 1500, and get some nice accessories like EQ pedals, OD's, new tubes, etc.

And, i'm gonna recommend that you atleast TRY a budda superdrive.
