So right now for fun basically, I'm looking to record a couple riffs using two different tracks put together. I guess basically what I'm looking for is a program where I can merge the two tracks/files together without any obstructions.

you could try Audacity and this other program called krystal.

If you just want to see how it sounds, try using a MIDI program like Powertab or Guitarpro!

Alternatively you could buy one of the little Line6 recording things eg the UX1 to record the riffs on!

Yeah, I have audacity on this computer, I'll have to try that out once I record some later. Thanks for the reply

EDIT: Probably a dumb question, but everytime I open a new file in Audacity, it opens up another window...is there a way I can open up both in one in the same window?
