A couple weeks ago I made a thread on how my dog was sick. Well, we had to get him put down today after he had a stroke. Does anyone have any tips on coping? That would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I posted this in the last one, but yeah, some old dude in a McDonalds in Alabama called me an aardvark.

That's sucks man. All I can say is take solace in the fact that your dog is no longer in pain. After a few weeks (or when you feel ready) getting a new pet helps a lot with coping.

Sorry to hear that. When my dog got pancreatic cancer, it wasn't easy to cope especially since she died while we were on the sofa.
Seeing someone in its death throes is hard.

Just remember all the good times, it won't hurt so bad after a while.

Usually if you get a new dog you will forget about him dieing and only remeber when you use to do stuff with him.

Real sorry man. If my dog died I would probably just cry for days. I remember my other dog died in 4th grade but I wasn't as attached to that one.

Maybe this will help. And my condolances.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

If you get a new dog, it really helps you cope. You'll be over it soon enough, and just remember that it's better that it happened like that than with a prolonged period of suffering.

Yeah, the people who came to spam can go and die a violent and premature death.

Really sorry to hear about that TS, one of my dogs died in August last year. There still isn't a day goes by that I don't miss her.

When my dog died I basically tried to preserve the memories as much as possible because I didn't want to forget anything. I gathered photos, went through family videos, and wrote down every memory I could think of. I think I was afraid of my friend becoming just a distant memory instead of a living breathing animal.

Sorry to hear about your dog. My cat died like a month ago and I cried for like 2 days straight. I never knew how much she meant to me. Anyways, this poem helped me out a lot, maybe it'll help you too.
