How did kurt cobain get that specific tone in the intro for smells like teen spirit... i know its clean but my tone is always to heavy even if i turn the bass and mid off... i got the tone once but i couldnt get it again. does it only work with fender guitars? cuz i got it with a strat at GC. I have and Ibanez GRX40z and a Crate XT10

oh woops i that you were talking about comes as you are
he gets the Come As you Are tone with a chorus pedal
but for Smells like Teen Spirit you need alot of gain i would just turn it all to 10

its not necessarily only with fenders

its because of the single coils in the fenders

but tbh the only way to really get the right tone would be to use the same gear as him
Gear

Guitar:
Squier Strat

Amp:
Fender Roc Pro 1000 Half Stack

Pedals:
Digitech Bad Monkey
Dunlop Original Crybaby Wah
Digitech Cool Cat Chorus

Full, just full of fail.

TS, clean tone, single coil, high-ish treble.

I'm pretty sure Cobain used a DS1 and a RAT distortion so maybe trying out one or both of those at a store sometime.

Yeah, but that's not what the TS is asking. He's talking about the intro.

The CLEAN tone in the INTRO

I would say a decent amount of Mids and Highs to begin with and use single coils....

You're gonna need a Digitech Death metal, a phaser of your choice, and a POG dialed into the organ sound.

Who's this "Kurt Cobain" everyone's going on about?

I got something similar by going o na clean tone and cranking the gain to 10.

but then again I had an edge because I once used a buddy's Digitech Grunge distortion.

Your gear makes me want to cry....it's like an epitome of UG hate.......I didn't care for the Grunge pedal so I gave it to my friend who got me into extreme Metal and really influenced my playing....

I think that clean part at the beginning was recorded with a mustang, lots of mids, and a mesa preamp.
