i have been playing for about 2 half years now and up until now i thought i was doing all right but since buying a toneport and recording what i play everything sounds incredibly sloppy and bad so i need to go back to my basics and build up some sort of practise routine any suggestions?

Wow.. Good advice there..

Well.. I pretty much had the same problem as you, just that i dont record myself, but i play bad on some songs. What i do to get better is just to practice old songs, the ones you started with when you first picked up guitar, since thats like.. Basics..
I Am what you call "an ok guitar player"
Im not an idiot that cant play a chord.
Im not the guy who puts the guitar behind his head and play perfectly.
I just drink Coke Zero and play.

I can't really tell without a recording, but scales are always very useful.
