Well, I've had another brilliant idea! In electronics next year, I think I would be able to mod my own pedal, and not have to buy a thing!

Now, I want to make my old BOSS DS-1 into a nice, smooth overdrive. Is it easy and where can I get diagrams?

Any tutorials on how to do this will help a bunch aswell.

Thanks!

there's a pedal building thread with links to sites that shuld have some diagrams for this, check that out.
Out here you've gotta know where your towel is!

You do know that most Boss distortion pedals have a settin (which is sometimes hard to find cuz you have to move the knobs til ya get it right) that is the same as the basic overdrive, right?

Well I'm not sure about this, I've only just started modding things. If you want a smoother sound maybe try a higher value potentiometer for the tone control so you can back it off a little more to make it sound a little warmer. This probably won't work, but I really have no idea what I'm talking about plus I don't have a DS1 so I don't know how it sounds...

You should probably mug John Frusciante or Ritchie Blackmore. They're small guys, we could take 'em.

Just look out for that other guy in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Will Farrel. He's a tall mofo, got a long reach.

But I would like a whole range of tones, not just one

I would look around some of the modder sites (Keeley, Analogman, etc.) and see what they do to change the pedals, and what results they get by changing them. Base what you do on what they do.

The "C"s are capacitors, I believe. "D"s are likely diodes, "R"s are resistors.
