I think i'm going to get the Hofner Icon B bass for $350.....Good Idea or bad idea?
Have you played one yet? Most of the violin basses that I've played feel very frail and cheap, and they have a very strange tone. Make sure you've played on in person and you're not just basing everyone on the Beatles before you buy one.
Telecaster - SG - Jaguar
Princeton Reverb, Extra Reverb
P-Bass - Mustang Bass
Apogee Duet 2 - Ableton Suite
Do you plan on changing tone settings live? All the ones I've played go out for a couple seconds when I flip the little switches. Also they are heavy and amazingly inversatile. Remember, the main reason Paul played that thing so long was the fact it was cheap and he didn't like an idiot with it on lefty style.
However, it isn't easy to recreate the tone of that... thing... so if you like it's tone (not just the look) it's probably a good option for you.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.
