what was the song lyric that struck the biggest tone with you when you first heard it, for whatever reason =] just curious to see what comes up

people are obviously not going to take this thread seriously and say "Its just like a mini mall" or something.. meh just try not to

for me it would have to be "... got nothing against you and surely i'll miss you, this place full of peace and light..." from Avenged Sevenfold's Afterlife.

Wow. There's lots for me.

Some of the most memorable are Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' Your Guardian Angel.
"I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever. I'll be there for you through it all, even if saving you sends me to heaven" but theres lots more.

The world was on fire, no-one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I'd never dreamed that I'd need somebody like you
And I'd never dreamed that I'd need somebody like you

No I don't wanna fall in love
this world is always gonna break your heart
No I don't wanna fall in love
this world is always gonna break your heart
..with you

What a wicked game to play
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing you do
To make me dream of you

No I don't wanna fall in love
this world is always gonna break your heart
No I don't wanna fall in love
this world is always gonna break your heart
..with you

The world was on fire, no-one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
No and I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
I'll never dream that I lose somebody like you, no

Now I wanna fall in love
This world is always gonna break your heart
Now I wanna fall in lust
This world is always gonna break your heart
..with you

Nobody loves no-one

Never gonna give you up...

Sorry, couldn't resist. In all seriousness, I'm not particularly sure, there are a lot of lyrics that I very much like due to their content, but I can't think of any of the top of my head that have actually moved me in any way.

RATM - Down Rodeo

Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse
So make a move and plead the fifth 'cause ya can't plead the first
So now I'm rollin' down Rodeo wit a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown skin man
Since their grandparents bought one
[quote="'[x"]Huffy[x]']^ This man knows everything.

Anything and everything written by Les Claypool.

"Hello all you boys and girls I'd like to take you to the inside world
It's quite irregular place to be but never fear you're safe with me.
Well, maybe."

Deep stuff, deep stuff. Kidding, I like Primus & Les. Too Many Puppies is an appropriate song for this thread.

edit: King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man has great lyrics as well. Time by Pink Floyd, etc.

Don't Think Twice It's All Right - Bob Dylan

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, gal
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

There are lots, but I think I have to go with:

NIN - Hurt

"(and) You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt"

The way trent sings it is amazing. Actually the whole song is but I don't want to take up too much room with my post

"Are we alive....or just breathing?don't close your eyes, seek the images"
thats the chorus to just barely breathing by kse
thats one of my favorite lyrics to a song but alot of lyrics to songs mean alot to me.

Didn't Johnny Cash cover that song? Or was it the other way around? I honestly don't know.
I don't really know my favorite lyric, songs strike me differently depending on my mood. For example, if I'm feeling down and hear a sad song it will hit me differently than if I was happy and listenin to it.

Original is by NIN. Johnny Cash covered it, I think they are both good and JC is amazing but I still prefer the original.

Avot U banim (Fathers and sons), by Eviatar Banai.
That song touched me like no other.
It's about the situation of a soldier dying in war, I'll translate it if anyone's interested.
Here's the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33y1ioRbg3Y
Here it is from the new Israeli movie "Bufour", about the Israel-Lebanon war. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLxL5GdXahc
For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race toward an early grave.

Stay Together for the Kids - Blink-182

It's hard to wake up
When the shades have been pulled shut
This house is haunted
It's so pathetic
It makes no sense at all.
I'm ripe with things to say
The words rot and fall away.
If a stupid poem could fix this home
I'd read it every day.

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost.
It's not right

Their anger hurts my ears
Been running strong for seven years
Rather than fix the problems, they never solve them
It makes no sense at all
I see them every day
We get along so why can't they?
If this is what he wants and this is what
she wants
Then why is there so much pain?

So here's your holiday
Hope you enjoy it this time
You gave it all away
It was mine
So when you're dead and gone
Will you remember this night, twenty years now lost
It's not right
