hey guys,

Lately i've been asked "play something", instead of blowing their heads with songs i'd rather do it with awesome, fast and awesome riffs

anyone know any?
I see you're not using the UG black theme

smoke in the water by deep purple or any rage against the machine songs cuz their riffs are awesome

Master of Puppets. Sanitarium's first solo thing in the intro.

Maiden?

Megadeth =]

Or something like Stevie ray, Vai or Satch if you're good enough.

dimebag put as much emotion in to 9/10 of his solos as hitler showed when putting jews in syanide showers.

may not be too everyones taste
But 'Laid To Rest' By Lamb of God, as well as being quite heavy, does have one hell of a groove going for it
Or for sheer awesome
Johnny B Goode always blows them away
#7
Laid to rest?
The first and last riff
If you can pull it off, it sure is impressive.
Especially the last one, damn that's a hard riff.

The Vomit Riff
Frantic disembowelment(good luck lol)
War EnsembleOrion (My friend said it looked really cool, just very ineffectively position your fretting hand so you have to keep moving it really fast)

Pretty much just anything that involves moving from one part of the guitar to another very fast tends to impress people.

Btw are we trying to impress people that do or don't know anything about music?

We blew people away with a teaser of our band's new song 'Rise, Black Sun' on Sunday night.
We played it right after a For Whom the Bell Tolls cover and we just exploded into a circle-headbanging orgy of blistering riffs
The pits were awesome

A good riff to make people go 'whoa' would be the verse riff for 'Clouds Over California' by Devildriver

It depends entirely on WHO you're playing to. A lot of people would be much more impressed with a nice Eagles or Beatles tune than a Metallica tune. Likewise, others may not even know who the Eagles or Beatles are! People will always be most impressed with tunes that they're familiar with.

Arch Enemy-Nemesis (The Intro riff)

August Burns Red-Truth of a Liar (The Intro riff)

All That Remains-Six (The Intro riff)

I usually just perform my own song or improvise when people are around.
Got a question about Baritone guitars? Feel free to PM me.

Thanks to UG, I converted from Metalcore to some "real" Metal.

I agree with Johnny B Goode. I think chicken picken riffs are good for impressing other guitarists
#24

im broken, walk, cowboys from hell, 5 minutes alone,25 years, cemetery gates and more...

Holy crap people he said awesome fast riffs, and you give him smoke on the the frikin water and johnny be good WTF???
Try these:
Damage Inc. - Metallica
some stuff from kill 'em all (as they're easy and fast and sound cool as shi*t)
Science, or B.Y.O.B. by System of a down (again, easy but cool sounding)
there were already some other good suggestions, CFH-Pantera, Lamb of God, etc...
#30
play some alice in chains riffs. theyre not exactly heavy but they have a good feel and people like them. play nutshell, heaven beside you or i stay away
#31
If you're plugged in to an amp and it's cranked...

Masters Apprentices - Opeth (It's a riff that just punches you in the face)
#32
Panama and Ain't Talkin' Bout Love by Van Halen are pretty good...

For something a bit more metal, though, try Ride the Lightning.

As long as you have an educated thumb finger picking is cool. If you don't it makes you look silly

You really got me by the kinks.
Or the van halen version...

Please do not insinuate anything sexual from that.

First off, I'm pretty sure smoke on the water was a joke suggestion. Secondly, If you've ever actaully listened to Johnny B Goode, then you would know that it actually is a very awesome, recognizable, and impressive riff. Things don't need to be metal to be awesome, buddy.
