Both have a greeat sound, it just depends on the stuff you play.
I've heard that the YCV40 has slightly better cleans than the YCV50.

The biggest bad thing Ive heard about these is they are not built so sturdy.

edit: HAHA the bar for the YCV50 is blue.....and the red one is....bah...nevermind

Depends on what you want.
The stock YCV50 has better gain, IMO.
The stock YCV40 has better cleans, IMO.

The YCV40 is more American. The YCV50 is more British.

However, changing tubes on the YCV40 can make a pretty big difference.
I supplied my YCV40T with a JAN 5751, a Shugang 12AX7, and a Tung-Sol 12AX7 in the preamp, and put a hot pair of JJ KT77's in the power amp. Totally worth it. Great cleans, and IMO, better OD than the YCV50 Blue.
Sounds really thick, and has that growl I was looking for.

I don't know anything about switching tubes or anything.
Great, tube amps get more complicated.

EDIT: Why would i ask about prices? google. Dur.

You really need to try them for yourself and see because they sound different. Tubes are just glorified light bulbs and no hard to replace than the bulb in your desk lamp.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

Of course, there are many great amps in that price range.

Which one sounds best to you?
also, buying a bunch of tubes could get pricey lol

What kind of music do you play? and what's your budget?

I guess pretty much anything would work. Just go out and try everything you can in your price range. Figure out which ones you like, read reviews and such on them(take those reviews with a grain of salt). Then try them some more and decide what's best.

Well, to retube a Traynor, there's 2 power tubes and 3 preamp tubes. Should only cost 70-80 bucks for all of them, if you buy from the right guy. No biasing needed for the new Traynors, due to their self biasing circuit.

As far as what tubes to get...it all depends. KT77's would add more low to mid range crunch. I don't know much about tubes for the YV50's, but there are a couple of different options for EL34's, other than KT77's.

You lost me with the EL34's and KT77's i dont know what those are lol
Perhaps a classic 30 would fit me better...ive heard good things about them.

the ycv40 sounds much more american voiced, think fender/mesa and if you put kt77's in it it can do modern metal

the ycv50blue is much more british voiced, think marshall, i personally prefer the ycv50 due to the fact that it's more british sounding

If you prefer a marshally tone, think about the 50. If you like more american voiced amps, maybe the 40 would be better.

Does anyone perhaps have a YCV50 with some sound clips?
That would be GREAT.

I took a look at youtube, no luck almost all the people there with that amp stunk/had badtone
#32
Which one of these would sound more like a jcm900?

I don't have a traynor dealer near me, and can't find a jcm900 combo used for that price so I'm considering these.
#36
oh, well could the 50 get some heavy gain? like hardcore, post-hardcore, punkish type stuff.

Get off this damn forum and play your damn guitar.

If you are worried about how heavy they go, get a YCS50 instead. If you think you can get heavy enough then just buy the amp. I am sure there are JCM900 combos around for under $500. I could probably find one within five minutes.
