Like the title says. So far I have come down to these two amps. I play mostly Thrash, speed, and power metal. I am willing to spend anywhere from $550 - $800. I want something good enough for small to medium sized gigs. Please help me out UG! I have also been looking into/playing some hybrids. They are pretty interesting.

Those two are good choices. I would personally get a used JCM900.

But it's a head, and I don't need a head right now (I resisted the urge to use a joke there)

I don't really want/need a stack. All I want is a combo amp that can perform well for small and medium sized gigs. Tube and Hybrids only. Thanks for reccommending all the awesome amps, but they are a bit pricey.

I am sure that $600 for a JCM900 combo isn't too much since you said you are willing to pay up to $800.

All that came up when I searched them were cabs and heads.

Just gotta wait for deals. Look on craigslist and other used sites/in your local newspaper.

Edit: found a used one on guitar center for cheaper. Just need a cheap repair on the fuse cap and you have got an awesome amp.

What are the fuse and fuse cap? Are those important. Sorry, I spent all my time on this site un-noobing myself with guitars and didn't pay any attention to amps. How many watts is the JCM 900?

They can be either 100 or 50 watts. That one is 50 watts I believe. The fuse is what keeps the amp from running on dangerously high voltages (I think) and idk what the fuse cap is, but I know cap means capacitor. I am sure an amp tech can fix the fuse cap for $30 and then you can just buy a new fuse for cheap.

Sorry I can't really tell you what everything does, I'm not much of an electronics guy. I just kinda know some things about amps.

Cool, I'll look into the JCM Combo. Any other suggestions, guys? What about the spider Valve 112. I played it in Guitar Center and it blew the Spider III away. It actually sounded like a real amplifier!
