maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

sounds like you already made up your mind.
you didn't specify a price range, if you want 100 W if possible, etc.
ANYWAYS
other brands to check out:
peavey 6505/6505+ or an old 5150 blockhead (not the 5150 II)
Engl fireball
Diezel VH4
basically you're should look for something wiht 6L6 power tubes
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not

Dissagree.

There's tons of high gain amps that sound great with EL-34s/KT77s.

Mesa Boogie Mark IV or a Mesa Boogie F-30 or F-50 should be great too. The F's arent very expensive either. (400- 600). Engl makes great amps, but the VHT and Diesel amps are very expensive.

Yeah, but with the Mesa solo 50 (single recto) you've got a bias switch so you can switch between EL34s or 6L6s which is cool

I do like the sound of a Mesa, BUT I have noticed that the Rectums are somewhat hit and miss... You'll find one which is quite bland and thoroughly uninspiring, but then you do come across the brilliant ones!

This is what I have found, And a few friends of mine too.
So I erge you to try one before you purchase and make sure it's a great sounding one.

For what you're after I'd suggest a Powerball or Fireball by ENGL, you can NEVER go wrong with them, they're amazing amps and not so outrageously priced.

If I could find a VH4 for $2500, I would buy it right now.

The VH4 costs $4500 new.

I say Splawn Quickrod with a Mesa cab maybe?

I haven't tried out a QR, but my guess is that it's not that bassy compared to other high gain amps. I could be way off though.

IMO Framus Cobra might be worth a look.

I'd see if you could find a used Bogner Uberschall. Although they aren't really my cup of tea, the bass is extremely thick and full sounding, whereas the bass is loose and flubby on a rectifier. They cost $2,400-$2,600 new so you should be able to find one for a fair price used with enough left to get a decent cab.

Edit: +1 to the Cobra as well.

Also look into one of these TS, new is $2000 for the head, but used ones go for like $1600

It's got the Fender cleans and much heavier gains then it's previous version 5150/6505
