I know of Skrewdriveer and stuff, but i read somewhere of Iggy Pop and Sid Vicious wearing Swastikas and stuff.

Where does punk and neo-Nazism come together???

Ian Stuard was a douche, but were Sid and Iggy nazis??

I seem to be lost.
#2
Sid used it for shock value. I've never heard of Iggy using any swastikas, but if he did, I'm positive it was also only for shock value.

Back then some punks wore swastikas because of the shock value. Nazism actually had nothing to do with it.

Sid wore Swastikas before the whole 'postcard punk' image.
He wore them because they looked cool and it seemed to piss people off. He wasn't a nazi or anything.

As for Iggy i dont know, but Sid was doing this way before the ridiculous Mowhawks, Dr Martens and Spiked Leather Jackets that people associate with Punk.

It was called Nazi Punks **** Off.

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I've heard that it's about Wattie of The Exploited.

What about exploited ? i heard they were racist also

Wattie was. I know he has a swastika tattooed on his arm, and I've read that he has a Nazi battle flag in his home. I've also read many racist comments from him about how immigrants were ruining Scotland and stuff like that. Wattie's a Nazi, but I'm not sure if the rest of the band is.

EDIT: Yeah, CowsWithGuns, I'm pretty sure it's about Wattie. I've also heard that Wattie used to always talk **** about Jello during Exploited shows, so I know that there is some animosity between the two.

Swastiskas were not wore as anythin other than shock value til like the '90s. Bout the '90s, Skinhead gangs became popular with some. But the true Punks of the '70s (the wusses who listen to Green Day bull**** today are NOT Punks) only wanted to shock people.
#12
That's true. The nazi swastika is inverted but most people don't know that so it's really rare to see an actual swastika.

The Punk community has been vehemently anti racist/fascist basically since its inception, with bands like the Clash and the Dead Kennedys.

Anyone actually hear about the anti Nazi concerts around then?

Problem arises when fascist groups try to attach themselves to a youth movement for support, especially an anti-establishment one like the Punks
#14
you guys ever hear of that street punk band 'frontline attack'? apparently the singer is an Ex-hammerskin

I think that line refers to the violent, meat head mentality that lots of boneheads and nazi skins have.

Nazi Punks **** Off wasn't actually about Nazis.

The only way neo-nazism is associated with punk really is a lot of bands (1980's and later) take a strong anti-fascist stance, aside from some bonehead ****s who decide to operate within the punk idiom, and Wattie who people still like for some reason.
#19
Nazi Punks was about violent meathead hardcore kids that were taking over shows. DK also played the song whenever they saw Nazi Skins at their shows though. Also, I'm sure Iggy was doing it for shock value, I read about it in Please Kill Me.

I'm pretty sure that the Nazi version is really just a Hindu peace symbol turned 45 degrees. I've seen pictures of the original version being used at Hindu ceremonies and stuff. It's basically a plus sign with the little things going off the ends.

In his own words, he said it was about goony surf punks and jocks.

'Cause jocks and Nazis are like the same thing. In Jello's world.

Nah, it's inverted. The Hindu symbol makes a "7" and the Nazi one doesn't. Look it up and you'll see what I mean.

On the A Scateboard Party album, Jello says "Ok, this is a song that some people like, and some people hate. But we're glad we did it. It's not against skinheads. It's not against long hairs. It's against people who are stupid in the head. Don't matter what you look like, it's what's in your head. This song is against racists. People who start fights. People who are fascists in the head."

It isn't always inverted, the Hindus use it both ways.

Maybe Wattie is a Nazi, but I asked the peolpe from a well known German Punk band who are strictly anti fascist, anti racist etc. and who once played together with Exploited, they said these rumours are alive for several years, but whenever they were in contact with Wattie he was a real nice guy and I think if had a swastika tattoo and is on stage with a blank body he beaten down by 10.000 punksfrom the crowd......

.......but I remeber an old dicussion about this when Nemo said he once talked to Oi Polloi and they said he is a Nazi.........this is all in all very confusing, but stuff like I´ve heard and I´ve read sometimes sounds like housewife rumours

Yea but before Hitler used it the Swastika was a symbol of peace.

It was a symbol of power.

Lou Reed used to shave a swastika into his hair apparently.

I found the following on this forum:
Information regarding Wattie recieved from Ian, comment posted by a member of Stormfront that he has in an old zine.

"Wattie denies in the interview that he is sympathetic to the national front, but he does admit to hating pakistanians, even going so far as to compare them to mexicans in america!! He also admits to having a nazi battle flag hanging on his living room wall. Wattie also has a swastika tattooed on his left arm."

EDIT

Information regarding Wattie taken from translated version of
http://www.libreopinion.com%2Fmember...itedKlasse.htm

"One says that the song of the Dead Kennedys "Nazi Punks **** off" (Punks Nazi, iros to the excrement) of the disc ' In God we trust, INC. ', was done thinking about The Exploited, and by that Wattie reason always it has hated to Jelllo Biafra, in addition to being bisexual."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"On the other hand The Exploited dedicated to the Dead Kennedys the song to them "**** The the USA", and to Jello Biafra the song ' I Hate Yoú, which can be found in the disc ' Live AT The White Housé and in ' Apocalypse ' 77 ' among others. In a recording in direct of this song it is possible to be listened to say to Wattie Buchan when beginning: "This song this dedicated to Jello Biafra so that he is a jodido fag. I am called ' hated "( " This to you song is dedicated to Yello Biafra because hés to ****ing faggot. It's called I hate ****ing you ".)"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comments such as: "Jewish bastard" are also made by Walter "Wattie" Buchan in this interview

NOTE

In the photograph that Ian posted, see the three skinheads in the background saluting Hitler, this shows that Wattie socialised with them.

EDIT

Wattie also commented

"One says that Wattie before touching with The Exploited declared that it hated the immigrants who acudian to Scotland, his loved earth. Often the Exploited has been accused to be a facist band, and in one of those occasions a recording appeared where Wattie stated that "hated to black, Philippine, Latin and Arabs".

'Nazi' or not, he's still a racist, homophobic prick.

He's also a nonce I believe.

Thats quite the combination, Nazi, kiddy fiddler and Scottish.

The swastika was for shock value but not really because of it's racist symbolism (at the time, racism was commonplace is England during these tough times. *Gasp* even in punk) but because of the damage of the Nazis to England in WW2. It would be like American kids wearing shirts and patches supporting the Taliban, ect.

And for the record one of Iggy Pop's heroes was a black jazz drummer from Chicago (I believe) that he apprenticed with.
-Squire '51 Strat
-Turser SG w/ P-90s
-Vox Valvetronix AD100 head
-Marshall MG412
-Simon Hollowbody (for sale $200)

They get the job done.
