(Didn't know which forum to put this, so The Pit was probably the "best" place...)

My grandfather's turning 60 soon, and he's going to have a huge party, where the whole family is invited. My mom and aunt said to me and my brother that we should play something dedicated to our grandfather. We said yes, of course!
I play the guitar (obviously) and my brother plays keyboard. The problem is that we haven't figured out what to play yet. We might make something ourself if we take the time, but I want to ask you if there are any songs for keyboard and guitar together that we can play? Remember that it can't be too heavy, although power chords and distortion is allowed (haha). It can neither be dark or evil sounding!
We also want a song that doesn't need drums and bass (although we might be able to work it out). Any suggestions?

The silent man by Dream Theater is only keyboard (chords), acoustic guitar and vocals, and its not at all heavy, so you could try that.

You could also try Desparado by The Eagles.

Write something yourself or play something that your grandpa loves. Knowing grandparents, he'll appreciate whatever you play. I would definitely go for something your grandpa knows unless you're writing, not Black Label Society or Dream Theater like suggested.

Play him acoustic stuff then, I don't know. Even if they can't stand it, grandparents are usually proud.

Oh man I love that song by Dream Theater, easily their best album (all the real fans know it, lolz)... Even so for someones 60th, stick to a well known classic band.

The Eagles are a good selection. See also Eric Clapton, Status Quo, The Who, there are loads of great bands you could cover.

I don't know if that would go down well.

I would stick to bands along the lines of those I listed above...

I personally would play him something emotional, that's just a suggestion though.

Another one you could try is Wish you were here by Pink Floyd.

Under consideration, thanks for bringing it up. It's actually a pretty open song. Easy to play solo over the guitar, instead of singing. And it has a lot of feeling.
