Been playing for nearly 3 years now, and my parents have offered to buy me a new guitar upto £500.
But I also have a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser, which is no longer exactly for my style of playing. So selling this should bring my price range up to at least £800.

My main guitar is a 3p-up Eastwood Airline currently and I play through a Fender Twin Reverb. My pedals include Jekyll and Hyde, Big Muff, Digitech Whammy, Digitech Jetpack Mods XP1000.
I play bluesy-rock like Black Keys/White Stripes, general rock/slightly spacey liek Placebo/Portishead, more indie-ish rock sound like Interpol and an electro-style rock.

So any thoughts on what guitar, or even combinations?

At the moment I am considering a Japanese Jaguar to about 400, then an acoustic or some pedals with it, maybe even another £400 semi-acoustic. Or maybe a single guitar for £800.

you lucky sun of a bitch. you have the Airline D:

hm, I think a Jaguar or a Jazzmaster would be great. I honestly think that you look pretty set in the effects department, unless that are some you just HAVE to get. Maybe a better Fender amp?I would say Marshall, but fender is better for the Bluesy stuff.

I don't think that post answered your question.... ._.;;

Better than a Fender Twin Reverb? Damn, those things are gorgeous.

If it was to be effects probably a delay, EQ and maybe a phaser/flanger for the more electro and spacey stuff. And any particular model of strat?

I'm thinking maybe a fat strat? Could be good for the kind of sound you want. Maybe even an Ibanez.

EDIT: Perhaps this - http://www.guitar.co.uk/ibanez/890-ibanez_jem555_electric_guitar

Ibanez JEM 555, I think it would handle your style of playing well from what you describe. Plus with the trem you could get some extra cool sounds out of it
I hope thats helpful to you

For the music you play, I'd say get a Stratocaster, but make sure its not one of the cheap mexico-made ones.

Cheap but good ones? which are really good to mod and there are many MIM ones that would blow people out of the water?

why that doesn't sound right now does it? it's made in Mexico so it must be ****.

But seriously TS the strat is a good idea. A very good idea actually, I'd look into that.

MIA strat HSS with S1 switching. great classic strat tones plus more.
I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes.

Feck the strat, if that's what you play. Get a Gretsch. Like a Corvette or a Duo Jet. Those will pwn a strat for garage rock, all the way.
#16
Lol, my main aim is to get a Gretsch, but I don't want one of the Electromatic series, so I'm just gonna save up... eventually.

So right now I'm thinking either that Fat Strat, A japenese Jaguar (£400) or an American Jaguar which ive found cheapest at £900 and could probably stretch to.

Just to narrow it down to an either or between the strat an jag, is there that much difference between American and Japanese?

The Japanese ones are supposed to be a step ahead of the MIM ones, but not as good as the MIA ones. Still, they use high quality materials and electronics, I do believe.

I guess prices are really jacked over there if you can have to pay that much for a MIA Jag. That's about how much a Power Jet costs in the states.

And tbh, there's nothing wrong with the Electromatic series. IMO, they are better than MIM strats as far as quality and on par or better than most epiphones.

However, if you want a good guitar for those styles, I'm gonna suggest a guitar with a P-90 in it. It has a more distinct sound to it, and it really pops, especially in fender guitars. May I suggest you take a look at the TC-90 thinline? Or a Jazzmaster?
#18
I'd never heard of the TC-90 before, but it looks great. I think I'll have to go an try one out in town at the weekend and see what I think, very good price as well

Best advice here is the Strat..an American... Great tone for what your looking for . Also with your Fender Twin Reverb (kick ass) I would recomend a TubeScreamer TS9 pedal and a Cry Baby... FUN FER YEARS!!!!

^I really don't like strats for Garage Rock. They don't have that thick, low fi feel to them. Hell, a American Standard telecaster would be better in this situation than a strat, because the neck pickup is a bit darker, while still having that top end pop that a strat has.

IDK, there just something about that lipstick pickup that makes it fit.

Another option is to get a blade humbucker. Dan Auerbach had those in the Telecaster he used for the Thickfreakness album.

An SG is also a good guitar to consider. I'm just against a strat for Garage Rock.

the trem is a edge III
if your gonna buy a jem at least get the jem 777 but i think maybe...a ibanez artcore for maybe the bluesy stuff but for the rest of the music you play maybe a jazzmaster or strat(?)
Gear:

Fractal Axe FX
VHT 2/50/2
Orange 4x12
Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro

Ibanez RGA 121 w/ Crunchlab and Liquifire
Music Man John Petrucci Mystic Dream
ERG Custom Guitar

That's a great suggestion. The tones I get out of my Artcore are perfect for garage rock and blues. And I think a Jazzmaster would be a better fit than a Jaguar because of the P-90's

Played the Jazzmaster and Jaguar today, (not the tc-90 as its discontinued) and I loved the jazzmaster, so looks like its between that and the tc-90 now. As for the artcore, I already have an Airline with which to play the more bluesy stuff with

Well, if you can't find one that you can play, I say you should go with what you have handled. The TC-90 is a bit cheaper, but discontinued, so the likelihood of you finding one to give a test run is not likely. And I wouldn't suggest to anyone to buy a guitar you haven't tested yourself.
