I searched, and found nothing. And don't think this should go in the Religion thread because I'm not asking about religion. I just got in this stupid argument with my mom because I have no 'church clothes' for Sunday. I personally don't think I need to go to Church to prove what I believe in. So Pit, what are your thoughts about Church? Do You Go? Discuss.

The Church I used to attend when I had my faith was more of an excuse for old people to get together and gossip and pass their right-wing judgment on everyone than a Church.

Even if I still believed in a God, there's no way I would go back there. No, I don't think it's necessary, but everyone has a different view on the subject, including your mother.

No I don't go to church but I live in between two of them. But you don't need to go, besides, standing in a carport dosen't make me a car so standing in a church doesn't make me a christian. I know that didn't have anything to do with it but I just remembered it for some reason.

I think going to church doesnt prove you religiousness, you are your own person and you believe what ever you want to believe without a friggen pastor cramming quotes down your throat.

after growing up in a catholic family, adn going to church many times, all it did was make me really interested in hell, and all the taboo, so really it did the opposite for me...boy that was and awkward conversation with my parents that im not going to church anymore :P

I go to a church where it's perfectly acceptable to go in jeans and a T-shirt. I don't think God (or whoever you believe in) really cares what you're wearing just so long as you're there.

Edit: I don't think you have to go to church it's just about being somewhere where there are people just like you. Kinda like a convention.
#8
I don't go to church, but when i used too, i always wondered why we had to dress nice, God should be happy that i'm even there in the first place. But then i heard the preacher say, "would you show up to an important interview in casual clothes? how about a court date? or even a first date with that special someone, you want to look your best right? Show god the same respect, and look your best."

made sense to me.

Nowadays though it's sin - 1 faith - 0

I don't go to church. I'm anti-religious. Not atheist, just against common religion.

Churches are basically places where people try to fill people's minds with propaganda, and then spend the donation money to buy more crack. Some churches are OK, like the ones that don't FORCE things into people's mind, and let you dress however you like. I still don't go to any, but if I did, I'd go to a laid back one that accepts everyone's beliefs.

But really, religion is one of the main causes of wars. DOWN WITH RELIGION, BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT, BUT KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!

I went to my mom's church a week ago and I honestly couldn't stop laughing. She had to tell me to wait outside.

But when you die is god gonna be pissed if you don't show up looking like you're getting married. Respect is not a matter of dressing up. Hell if we did everything God wanted we'd all be stark naked, I don't think that's very formal...
#13
Personally I can't stand the whole "formalized" gig at most churches. I mean hell, half the churches out there Jesus probably couldn't get into.

But worship is important (and not just by yourself). Don't think it needs to be at "church" though.
#14
Instead of starting a religious debate, I'll just say this...

It teaches morals.
I can honestly say I have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.

But what happens when a hobo can't afford formal clothes and want to praise God? Are they gonna say I'm sorry but you're not dressed up enough?

I think respect and the way you present yourself are very closely related. And it's not like it's in the bible "let it be known that all church goers dress up nicely dangit" It's more of an accepted custom, that you look your best every sunday (or whenever) and worship.
Honestly. Wtf?

I haven't been to church since I was about 6 years old (15 now), and I haven't missed it one bit. Personally I think that religion is stupid, and that I can be a good person without being religious. Forcing somebody to go to church will not make them religious, if anything it will make them not like religion even more than they already did.

none. you don't have to believe in the religion, but you have to agree to some extent that a lot of the morals that are taught at church are very important.

I live in Tennessee. You can't drive one mile without seeing three or four churches.

I was raised Catholic, and in my first year of high school I went to a Baptist church. Then in 11th grade I realized that "god" wasn't real, and I was believing in a lie.

I don't go anymore.

I told my parents i didnt believe in god.

they still said that its their job to take me to church and make me part of the family even though they accept it. meh, its not too bad, just a nice place to sit and think for a while.

Church to me (at least in the US) is just another hustle, 1 man or a group of people trying to make a buck off of people's pain, hope, and faith. It's very hard to respect church when money is involved, it just makes me sick to witness scores of people being robbed in the name of God.

First off going to church isn't about proving your faith, it's about the teachings and trying to learn and apply them to your own life. A good minister helps you understand the bible and what is being said better. But yes far to often the ministers are bad, to many old people using it as an social outing to show of their new hats. And worst of all the coffee tastes like ****.

it's not like that only in the US, it's everywere. i don't know about other countries, but in Croatia, The Church doesn't have to pay taxes. and when you don't have to make reports of your financies, it's a very wealthy ground for money laundering and corruption. priest and cardinals drive around in new expensive cars, while the majority of believers are poor. they don't give a damn about the people. The Church, which should take care of the people, tried to demolish a kindergarten and childrens playground to build another church in that spot. i despise organised religion.

there was a study which showed that belief in God was inverse proportional to education. in countries which had the most percent of highy educated citizens, belief in God was small. and in countries which had the lowest percent of educated citizens, belief in God was very big.

I think it is important to meet together and worship with other christians. Im not saying it has to be a declared organized church. And I think you should dress approriate for how the church dresses. Not like everyone else but if it is a more formal church wear those type of clothes, and if it isn't wear casual stuff.
